I'd say Necro, NB, followed by Templar, Sorc. But I have to say, I recently starting dabbling with tanking vet content on my sorc tank, and it's a lot of fun!

I wont vote because my 2 tanks are DK and Templar, so I cant speak for the rest of the classes.

If you want my opinion on Templar tanks, they have the best damage shield (Sun Shield/Radiant Ward) which together with the minor protection given by the passive makes you almost immortal, they have Rune Focus which gives back stamina and raises you resistance a lot, a very useful healing ultimate that can save your group from wipe in emergency situations, together with Wardens they are the only class that can apply Major Maim to enemies which raises damage mitigation by a lot (with Nova skill) and also have access to Minor Fracture/Breach, which raises group DPS further than other classes.

Main disadvantage of the Templar tank is that it lacks reliable CC skills. RoR is not enough. You cant immobilize enemy like with DKs talons.

Necro tops Warden and DK together still by thousands of percent. Necro are without a doubt the strongest possible tank in game.

Necro is far superior at noob carrying thanks to the rez ulti. When the wall kills the noobs, just rez them once they're on the other side, then they rez you.

Sorc tank is great, she is my main now.

I played Tava NB tank before, well u know, ZOS finally removed the passive dodge system in the game without asking, I cant find anything special in NB at the end.

    Nb
Only non-DK/Warden tanks I've run in groups so far are Sorcs, and they're great. That said, my magblade is a soloist/carrier so if I couldn't play DK/Wardens for whatever reason, I'd throw a sword and board on him and roll. I know my magblade way better than most of my other toons though, so that probably has a lot to do with it.

NB is the meta MT since Elsweyr tbh so.. Insane mitigation, good sustain, ton of ult generation, easy acces to minor vulnerability, major protection if needed, etc..
Lack of decent heal but you've healer for that, not a problem.

Necro is decent but lack of sustain.
Sorc is almost unkillable + infinite ressource but didn't bring anything to the team.
Templar lack of decent heal for tank, more than NB since he don't have the same mitigation. Also, their is lot of templar heal and dps around so the unique buff/debuff it provide are already there.

That said if you don't plan to score or do serious thing just pick what you love.

Nightblade tanks are great, especially for Sunspire. But my personal preference are Necros. I find Necro tanking a lot of fun and very effective for almost all content. Can’t go wrong with either.

When it comes to group utility, necro. The ress ulti and the colossus are great.

But when it comes to survival, NB is better by a large margin. On top of the usual buffs, NBs get minor resist buffs, major evasion, AoE minor maim, minor protection, major protection from ulti, 10% flat damage reduction from grim focus and weapon damage reduction on enemies. They lack a bursty self-heal, but of the classes on the list, only sorc has a better self-heal, and sorcs have way less mitigation except for short bursts.

Were talking specifically about streak, even if pug group that are mostly dead, and there is wall (vDoM) or hunt phase in vMoS hm, streak lets you res the team and save the day. But it is more of a meme xd. (Tbh if you dont like roll dodging, sorc is one of the best classes to block on thanks to bound aegis)

    Templar is the obvious choice:

    Empowering Sweep (Ultimate)
Take reduced damage for each enemy hit.

    Spear Wall (Passive Skill)
Increase block amount vs melee attacks while you have a spear ability slotted.

    Spear Shards (Active Skill)
    For the great resource synergies

    Solar Disturbance (Ultimate)
    Applies Major Maim

    Backlash (Active Skill)
For Minor Fracture and Minor Breach (Power of the Light)
OR: Healing pool around the boss (Purifying Light)

    Prism (Passive Skill)
    Ultimate generation

    Illuminate (Passive Skill)
Minor Sorcery to you and your group.

    Radiant Aura (Active Skill)
Minor Magickasteal on targets & Minor Fortitude, Minor Endurance, and Minor Intellect on self

    Extended Ritual (Active Skill)
    Purge negative effects

    Restoring Focus (Active Skill)
Major Resolve and Major Ward, and x amount of stamina restored while inside the area of effect (also whilst blocking).

    Light Weaver (Passive Skill)
Ultimate regeneration for group members you heal that are below 60% HP

They do. An HP% based heal. Templars have to choose between worst case survival and being able to heal themselves, while all other classes get both by stacking HP.

Necromancer easily, did you forget the Bone Goliath transformation gives 30k health and makes all light and heavy restore health, not to mention Ravenous Goliath Morph surrounds them in an absorption field which drains health from enemies.

Scythe healing also scales off of health and therefor is boosted by the Goliath ultimate.

Scythe requires multiple targets in melee range to be good. This means you can't heal in situations like for example vAS when the boss is flying and leaving behind the fire AoE.

As for Goliath, compared to NB you got one ulti that has to make up for major protection + 10% flat damage reduction + weapon damage reduction + minor resist buffs + major evasion. Depending on build and situation this can give much more in terms of effective HP and effective incoming healing than Goliath. Not to mention that the major protection from the ulti applies to the whole group rather than just you.

Really, the only argument for Necro over NB is group utility, because in terms of raw survival NB is much better.

Its a great ult for long duration survival but usually you shouldnt need an ult to survive.
Scythe heals decent with multiple enemies but on a single target the heal is rather small.

Neh mate even with 1 target the heal is big, 30% of max health? Delicious.
