Would you continue to play ESO if cash shop went away and game became monthly subscription?

So, if ESO abandoned the cash shop and you had to pay $15 a month instead would you continue to play?

This is assuming that the cash shop exclusive items ( such as mounts, etc.) became available through in game tasks.

Would you continue to play ESO if cash shop went away and game became monthly subscription? 465 votes

In its current state; no. Has nothing to do with the cash shop or how they fund a game on whether I play it. If it doesnt function well for what I want to do, I'm not supporting it

That is how I wish it had stayed the whole time. IMO microtransactions may have made sense for ZOS, but the game is worse for it today.

Disclaimer: my sub is currently cancelled as I wait and see where we go with the performance improvement. Playing on PC-EU, I couldn't justify keeping my sub with the sub-par performance and all the downtime.

Cash shop is kinda last thing i'm thinking about the game right now. It's not even near mandatory and doubt that lots of old time players really want to support direction which game is going.

I already pay two subscriptions and have always played ESO as, in effect, a subscription-based game. The few things I get in the crown store I get pretty much with the subscription crowns. It wouldn't change anything for me and I'd carry on happily as now.

Those who enjoy the game enough to continue playing it but claim it isn't worth paying for under either method of subscription or crowns are just having a free ride.

Games are better when they are all-inclusive.

As long as they don't move all, or most, of the cosmetic rewards into high end content, that is...

    At that point, I'm out.

Not because I can't, necessarily, do it, but because I don't always want to and support my fellow players (furnishers, for example) that can't/don't want to do it.

I'd be pleased if cash-shop got away (COMPLETELY!) and only sub is to pay. That would increase game fun by 200%. The designers would be on their main duty to enhance gameplay, not to design the next best selling cash shop cosmetic.
Next all great items (Mounts, Costumes, Personalities) would come from the game itself through achievements , dungeons, quests or whatever else.

Overall would be a great enhancement to gameplay and their priorities (much less of the team would need to focus on cosmetics to sell, instead they could design more game content to play!)

i play anyway subscribed - but why get rid of the crown store?- Crowns are part of the subscription and I enjoy buying some stuff with it from the store. And for those not liking cosmetic stuff - then just don't buy it - but let us, who enjoy it, keep it and have fun with it. Things like the outfit station is especially useful for subscribers - and i want to keep it that way - recolor my outfits and costumes.

I just remembered that I buy my Crown Repair kits from the store - so, no, I'd have problems if the store disappeared.

Absolutely not - not all have a lot of time to play.

It's a tricky question. I currently pay a sub so that part doesn't bother me. However, if the game went sub only, I would likely lose many friends and guildmates. The loss of those players would be enough to push me to another game I could enjoy socially.

So while sub only doesn't bother me, it would indirectly lead to me leaving anyway.

Yes with the provision that they bring in some character progression, I'm bored stiff at the moment. New gear is not character progression.

With current system you buy stuff you want and if you don't like something, you can skip it and do some other part of the game.

With required superscription you will have to pay constantly, even if you only want to do base game / older content. Also there is a huge risk that new content could be less attractive & polished, as stated before - base game will be effectively a "permanent" DLC.

btw. I an not shopping addict, I know what I want. If there is something nice in Crown Store - I am buying it. But If there is something that I don't need - I am skipping it.

Also, many newer players probably don't know this, but if this game did not went from Superscription to B2P model - it would have died long time ago.

I have not much time to play, but some money to spend, so no, I wouldn't continue playing without the chance to buy around some boring grind.

I'm an ESO+ member anyways, but if I wouldn't have the possibility to buy some convenience items from my monthly crown stipend (hello undaunted skill line) every now and then I'd rather quit.

No because they probably wouldn't make enough money from milking Housing players for 16000 crowns with new houses and would have to shut down the game. Then no one would be able to play.

I would come and go. Cash shop has almost no impact on me. I bought banker, merchant, all character slots, and the pet with the 5 storage slots.

I already sub on and off for craft bag. If they when sub to play, I would just not play the game when not subbed. Thing is, when I stopped playing after finishing the base game 4 months after launch, I didn't really miss the game. Lower Craglorn didn't really appeal to me when i dropped and I never even knew Upper Craglorn dropped because I wasn't playing the game anymore. I only returned for Tamriel Unlimited. Initially I bought DLC with crowns, but stopped not long after crafting bag dropped. Now I just sub intermittently, which gets me both craft bag and time to finish DLC.

Greymoor is the first chapter I am not pre-ordering. I might even wait a full year and play it on ESO+ considering I still have barely touched the content from last year. I actually really like what I've done so far in Elsweyr. I still enjoy the game. I just don't think it is worth the cost needed to make inventory not suck.

Problem with ESO is that performance is not up to a sub game. For me personally at this moment it's not worth playing for free. Assuming cash shop and performance and quality issues went away, and no better alternative gets released, I'd gladly sub to play it.

Been ESO+ for years, probably wouldn't play much without the craft bag and double inventory. Plus the "free" crowns have gotten me a banker, some houses, etc. So nothing would change for me if it became a mandatory sub.

pay for what? performance is worse than it was in 2016 when i bought it. i cant even play in battlegrounds anymore not to mention cyro and i dont like eso quests they are full of time fillers. theres nothing to pay for

Those 17 (result at this moment) that voted that would leave the game are probably not spending anything in the shop either, or very rarely, so not a big loss since they are not supporting the game anyway.

That's not how it works, there would still be bundles, where you cna decide to buy on a monthly basis or do 1 big purchase for like 6 months at a reduced cost.

Not sure? I would probably quit.

The current system is really into my liking. I can sub when I feel like playing and when I'm away and maybe just stop by time to time I don't have to. I can even play the game without paying constantly now.

When I'm actively playing I like to be subbed though, the perks are good enough.

I would, but that would never happen in a current game-world, and I think ESO's approach is fair enough, do you want to support the game you're playing actively enough to wear/live here? Pay for that? My answer is yes. Far beyond the reaches of any current game and in a setting I love.

You don't get far trying f2p play here, not because you win the fight, but you have YOUR imagined hero-outfit on during it, access to dlcs! They might have ONE item, that makes you a stronger player in crownstore atm, and they said, it's a mistake! You don't pay to win, you pay for more fun! Within the same limits! You don't pay for power - you pay for more fun, and wouldn't any entertainment provider? They kinda, have to pay the people doin' it you know...

It's not about pay to play, but love to play. Regardless...

OP, you are really asking two questions since the cash shop and subscriptions are not tied together. As a result, the poll will be biased towards yes because some people will merely vote that they would support getting rid of the cash shop.

Regardless, Zos realized long ago that they would not get the revenue from subscriptions alone which is why they abandoned requiring them and switched to the mixed model we have now.
