Port to group leader failed

Last night I was invited to join a group that was trying to finish vCoA II. They were at the last boss and after joining the group I tried to port to the leader a few times just to get back where I started.
I was at my GM's Moonsugar Meadow, near an Enchantment station (if I remember correctly), which is also near 2 of those Dragon statues that were set to the lightning animation. The teleport seemed to work every time - saw the animation, the bubble, loading screen - and then I was back exactly where I started.
After my first try I thought that maybe I'd hit the wrong option (travel to player's primary), but I paid attention the next 2 times and even though I went through the port process, I didn't get outside the Meadow.
I then chose another member of the group to port to and got in there with no problems on my first try.
To add more details, the other members of the group were inside the lava area but not engaged with the boss. Also, it took 2 or 3 tried to join the group, but I think that is not related to the problem I had. PC NA.
