wow. Are you seriously forcing people to start in expansions of Zeni's choice for the tutorial?

That is awful. I decided to make a new character today and do the tutorial just because i havent done the tutorial in many years. You forced me in to elswyr?
Just let us choose where to start damn it.

I dislike this, too. I liked my Morrowind tutorial on my first character but I didn’t create my second until after buying Elsweyr so I don’t even know what the Summerset tutorial is like.

I am saving what potentially might be my last character slot purposefully to experience the new tutorial when Greymoor is released.

Otherwise - this has been brought up countless times with every new Chapter release - but maybe they could implement a system of, “once you have competed the new tutorial on a character, you can choose how you start the game, afterwards?” Kind of like unlocking certain content that becomes available on other characters, after doing it once.

That way - they get their marketing goals met; and we get choice to play the game we are inherently supporting by wanting to make a new character, and experiencing not-to-be-missed existing content.

I absolutely loved running through the original tutorial with characters on my alt account without any DLC - after not having seen it in years. The nostalgia! The acting! The threat of the Plane-Meld! Lol.

If those stories / questlines still exist in game - we should be able to access & experience them somehow, still. IMHO.

Zeni just hasn't bothered to make a system to let you choose.

Ideally the start of each major story should be a starting point(This would remove Summerset as an option, since Summerset is the end of a story not the beginning).

I don’t think it’s so much an issue of the tutorial, the one from Elsweyr does a far better job of actually introducing players to the game mechanics than any of the previous tutorials, but an issue of where players start the game proper.

Ideally players should have some kind of choice about where to start.

And ZOS should develop more tutorials that players could return to whenever they wish.

There is one huge advantage to new tutorials in new zones. All those containers 😍
Maybe I’ve got good tutorial luck, or whatever, but I’d usually pick up at least one new zone furnishing plan each time I’d run.

I just skip the tutorial, walk to the nearest boat/caravan, port to my alliance starting town and take a blow to the head from the hooded stranger. :D One way ticket to Coldharbour. But yes, this convoluted method gets irritating after the 12th alt.

You don't even have to do that. Elsweyr tutorial dumps you out right next to a wayshrine, just port to your alliance's starter city, the wayshrine there is already unlocked.

That is not a solution for new players, they don't know where the skills are not to mention to port to your alliance starting town. I'm rather new player and spend like half an hour googling where is what and who is who. If you are new player you are following the game lead and story that is presented to you.

So yeah, the best solution would be, when you are creating your char, the last step before you hit the create button, that game asks you would you like to play from beginning or start with latest content.

That would be the best way to do it in my opinion.
As a fairly new player, I would appreciate that feature a lot when I created my first character.

I guess that ZOS really WANTS you to go to latest content, not so they don't know how to implement that, but for some reason it is their policy for some reason. I dunno, maybe to put you in zones where highest population is. But still, the choice would be great option to have.

What if at the end of the Elsweyr the next step was followed immediately by the hooded figure?

If it makes you feel any better, I've done them all so far, and the Summerset tutorial is by far my least favorite, so maybe you didn't miss much.

The summerset tutorial is you having to escape from an evil BRAIN PRISON!!!

But yeah it is so so stupid that we can't choose a tutorial on character creation. I'm pretty sure this is a greed based decision becuase people in the Zenimax corporate cabal of supreme evil want to force people into then new shiny things before all else.

But you cannot do that to play Morrowind or summerset intro... So only a third of a solution was given to us. Still very meh.

One of the problems is that if someone just don't get the importance of meeting up with the hooded figure, he won't know what is going on with those anchors everywhere. There is as well no one telling a newbie to join the mages and fighter guilds and even less of what is going on is understood this way. A little more guidance in the beginning would be helpful.
  • Drammanoth
Damn, I also wish I could have the choice - I mean, I HAVE the chapter, right? Meeting: Naryu for Dunmer / Argonians, Oriandra for Summerset makes as much sense as meeting Zamarak and Majha'dro for Khajiit / necromancers or any other char that wants to get involved in the specific storyline.
  • Drammanoth
I would really like to know what's the ZOS's -stance- on this idea.

I mean we all know they are working tirelessly to treat us with Western Skyrim (which we APPRECIATE), yet I'd also like to have some 'hope' to know that we'll be able to begin where we, P(L)AYERS, decide.

Is is about the number of chapters? 4 created - 1 basic, so there is much to choose from.

Is it about time? Tell us that we have something to wait for - we will.

Again, it's easy to to *** about them, sure, so let's just hope they will not be branded another Blizzard.

Done few Elswyr's story quest to meet a very important NPC from vanila storyline, even more hilarious is that they wanted me to ponder whether that NPC is sending us to a trap or not! Great job.

As frustrating as it is for some, the idea behind is simple. New people buying the game for the first time, say after seeing promotional Greymoor material, are given immediate access to that content, and given a narrative line to drop them in.

It isn't done just to displease old timers. It's done to make the entry of new players as exciting and fluid as possible. Imagine the game still had the old tutorial but that new player just wanted to go to the Greymoor content they paid for and that enticed them to buy the game? They'd be forced to start one story thread and be left in the position of then being forced to choose between Greymoor and finishing the main story at that point. It's not good for the new player experience.

Basically this model allows new players to hop right into the newest content with no barriers and no need to worry about the other content of the game just yet.

OH NO, a company decided to do to something that's beneficial to their business! How shocking and absurd!

    ...

    ...

    ...

I mean... I understand the concerns, I would LOVE to have options, and think it would be cool if the devs gave warnings as to what's happening to new players so they could choose.

That said, I bet they know what's best, and if they keep doing it and keep getting bigger and bigger, I'm happy. A healthy ZOS means servers are alive and I get to keep playing.

Your better off sticking with the chapter tutorial since you get access to a skill point that characters created before owning a chapter miss out on.
