Question for Alcast

@Alcast

I`ve looked at your updated build to Rampage PVE nightblade for the Greymoor release and are questioning a couple of your updates

2 patches ago Velidreth was your recommended monster set, last patch it changed to Selenes. This update has now changed to Velidreth or Selenes. Looking at the patch notes for the last 3 patches there seems to be no noticable changes that justify the change from one to the other and now back to either.

The same for the bow. 2 patches ago it was Maelstrom bow, then last patch Masters bow. I see its now back to Maelstrom even tho again nothing has changed with the affected skills or gear. Poison Arrow is now gone from the backbar but you struggle to see a reason why.

Can you explain why you recommended these changes for both monster set and bow please. I get these are flavour mainly and flex spots and can be changed but you`d just like to know why.

Also, why have you changed soul spitting trap for consuming trap?

I havnt checked alcast builds for a long time but I think its because unless you're running deadly strikes, poison injection is pretty weak. So maybe using a masters bow for 300 weapon power is worse then just unsloting posion injection and just using vma bow and endless hail. I've always preferred selenes on my stamplar, but Selenes on a nb seems wierd to me, I havnt touched my nightblade though so I'm kinda ignorant on how effective it is.

Velidreth used to be able to hit all 3 orbs on the same target. Don't remember when they changed it, but now a target can get hit by maximum 1 orb. It is a massive nerf for pve (makes the set deal 1/3 of the damage it dealt).

Other that that, master and maelstrom are st focused and aoe focused, so both are bis, for different things.

And i think that the changes are because while it is true that 1 is better than the other, they are still both good.

Also poison injection got nerfed if i am not mistaken.

This is all I see from patch notes about the bow, i dont see where they really nerfed it, just fixed an issue and made volley and its morphs cheaper.

    Weapon

    Bow
Poison Arrow: Fixed an issue where this ability and its morphs would cancel any previous cast ability, such as cast times or channels.
Poison Injection (morph): Fixed an issue where the initial hit of this ability was not considered an execute by many proc conditions, such as Sheer Venom.
    Rapid Fire
Ballista (morph): Fixed an issue where this ability could continuously break the caster’s invisibility.
Volley: Reduced the cost of this ability and its morphs to 3510, down from 4500.

Edit: also, soul splitting vs consuming is really dependent on the trial, for aoe dmg it is splitting, for uber awesome sustain (where you need to kill things other than boss, vSS, vAS, vCR, any place really) consuming is awesome.

The thing that changed is that now the DW skill flurry counts as direct damage and can proc Selene. Before, it was damage over time. Because you now do 5 strikes of flurry per cast, you have a higher chance of proccing Selene, making it a better choice. Flurry also now procs axe bleeds from the twin blade and blunt passive. Maarselok will outperform Selene's in raids most of the time anyway.

Are you saying it's better to swap out flurry for surprise attack? And to switch to maarselok instead of selene's in your opinion? Thank you :)

When did this happen? In update 25? It's not in the patch notes. I can't play yet because I am still downloading, but Flurry/Rapid Strikes never triggered Selene for me in the past.

Velidreth, Selene and Maarselok are all good sets.

In theory Maarselok will push most damage in raids, that is true for very good raiders. Many people equip Maarselok and then forget to bash, so the set actually never goes off or it only goes off from time to time when you remember to bash. If you are a good raider and you manage to proc Maarselok on cooldown, then that should be your choice but in reality.

Selene is nice when you use Flurry (Rapid Strikes/Bloodthirst) it will proc Selene often and will result in more damage than Velidreth.

Velidreth is not far behind these other sets, but it is the easiest to use and most resistible to changes in your build/setup.

    https://eso-sets.com/set/velidreth
    https://eso-sets.com/set/selene
    https://eso-sets.com/set/maarselok

I changed most of the rotation on the website to 14 seconds, thus using the Maelstrom Bow in combination with Endless hail (14s duration) will benefit you more and the rotations overall are easier because you need to manage less DoTs.

    https://eso-sets.com/set/thunderous-volley
    https://eso-skillbook.com/skill/endless-hail

Consuming Trap is now often used as a DoT, not because it really gives you a damage boost, but it will make your resource management easier as the ability costs magicka, which gives a "break" to your stamina usage.

    https://eso-skillbook.com/skill/consuming-trap

Using a Master Bow and a more DoT focused rotation is still viable, it just won't really result in more dps and will just complicate the rotation more.

If you have more questions you can always come ask in our community discord.

@Alcast thank you for your response, that was very helpful. Would you suggest swapping out surprise attack for flurry as my spammable to prock Selene's more often? If so, which morph of flurry would you suggest? Thank you again.

I did join your discord channel but it says I cant make comments there, so commented here. Thanks again :)

Glad to help, you have to be a member for like 10 minutes before you can write something in the discord.

You can if you want, Surprise Attack isn't bad either as you will use it quite often and it is instant cast.

If you want to use one of the Flurry morphs it depends what you need. If you want to go for max damage then Rapid Strikes is the way to go. If you play alone or in a random group, then maybe Bloodthrist might be better as you also get heals from it.

    https://eso-skillbook.com/skill/rapid-strikes
    https://eso-skillbook.com/skill/bloodthirst

If I were you I would do some testing with both skills and then pick the one you like more.

    Cheers
