so optimally for fury you need to be in combat for 10 seconds to ramp up to 600 WD for 10 seconds then it resets *50% max stack uptime*, for clever you need to be in combat at all, then its instant 675 for 20 seconds before your waiting on cooldown 30 seconds *10 seconds by the time it ends, 66% uptime* (*CAN* be augmented by enchants)
for me when im in combat, it's a lot easier to.... not requiring to remember to drink a pot every other minute.
Fury just stacks. by itself.
CA u need to pop a pot. and like u mentioned, sometimes lag is an issue too............

Yeah this can be easily remedied by just practicing with the set for a couple hours. I agree with you, but I think some would call that a l2p issue lolol

It's 100% a L2P issue. I know this because I have a fully golded set of Clever Alchemist in storage. I had it as a front bar set and would hit my potion, without fail, while on my back bar every single time.
I did not L2P. I switched sets

Change it to your back bar set then.

yeah follow up is this has been a great set for me, as I didn't like the ramp up and then 10 sec of fury, alchemist has no ramp up and longer uptime before a longer down time. so its more like a 20 up, 20 down, instant back and forth compared to fury being 10 up 10 down very spikey back and forth.
I run it with NmA (obviously) BS, and potentates SB on my DK, SB bar is buffs and heals with undo for my downtime and positioning, then when its all set I swap to 2h, pop a pot, and go to town for 20 sec before repeating the process. )1 heavy 6 medium, might swap to 2 heavy but honestly its been fine.
has been perfect and fluid and feels great. I much prefer clever over fury as fury is something you have to actively keep track of while clever requires an action on my end that I have control over, and thus allows me to take advantage of enemy mistakes better. also as I tend to buff before engaging I can time my clever being over with my dragon armor going away.
