Question on Khajit's Tale Mission

It simply doesn't make sense why Zayshara (Zashim's mother ) couldn't escape tomb she, her husband and son sought refuge in:

According to documents you have to find as part of this quest, Zashim was found wandering outside in the cold by the Orc clan. And was adopted/raised by them. So it's clear he apparently found a way out of the tomb. But not his parents? How did he manage to wander so far away from where his mother (Zayshara) skeleton was found? Especially if it's assumed the tomb had been inhabited by Reiklings or some other threat like undead?
I guess what I'm saying is the final location where Zashim's Baandari trader parents ended up (given their campsite was complete with what was left of their trader cart) was light years away from the tomb's entrance. Why did they need to travel so far into the depths of the tomb if only seeking refuge from storm? Taking shelter inside the immediate interior of the tomb entrance would've been sufficient. Also where is the skeleton of Zashim's father's corpse? Why is this missing from where Zayshara's skeleton was found?

This quest was tied into one of the main zone quests for Orsinium which required you to kill the Reikling King boss. I noticed the zone marker for this dungeon on the map didn't update until both quests were completed.So I was wondering if there was anything I may have missed while investigating the tomb? Or am I way overthinking the simplicity of this quest?
