Roll dodge bounce back?

Running vet Tempest Island last night with my regular group I play with. We focus on vet HM content and have played together for a while. As you’d expect, vet Tempest is no challenge for us.
Until last night. On the final boss, both DPS and our DPS/healer were getting bounced back INTO the boss’ big AOE circle after roll dodging out of it.
I would clearly roll outside the circle and then after about a half second delay, would bounce forward into the circle as the AOE went off. We haven’t had a death in there in over a year but we had about six last night.
Any ideas what’s going on?
