DW best traits PVE DPS question

I have seen most guides call for mainland nirnhoned axe and offhand sharpened dagger. Recently I was told that nirnhoned should be on the offhand due to the offhand damage passive in DW skill line. I am a little confused on what’s best now because I could have sworn the offhand had some damage reduction which is why sharpened was BIS.

Could someone clear this up for what is best?

There is no single best trait, it all depends on the build and have to consider gear, skill points and CP distribution, and what are you trying to achieve. Sharpened may not make sense if you are at the penetration cap already. Offhand in DW has less DMG than main even after passive buff.

There is no best. But in your case it is: No nirn in offhand because the 2nd hand is scaled down, even with the passive.

I’m running a stamcro with Relequen body, deadly or lokke jewelry and weapons depending on situation kragh monster set, and vma bow.

I guess what I’m asking. If I’m using nirn and sharpened, which hand goes which and which hand goes axe and dagger? I would think axe on main hand has better chance of proccing the bleed.

Nirn trait definitely goes in the main hand, it's 200 more weapon damage that way. And sharpened isn't really needed on a necromancer for PVE, especially one with Kragh, since you get a lot of penetration from those two things.

It's better for a necro to put CP points into piercing and run a precise weapon instead of using sharpened since the damage multipliers, especially Thaumaturge, get watered down a bit by the other damage multipliers like 15% Slayer and the 15% necro DOT buff.

And dagger or axe could go in either hand, it's all the same result whichever is slotted in main hand

You'll want nirned on your main hand and sharpened off hand, the main can be a dagger or axe it doesnt change the bleed chance.
