If you're not familiar with the lore and don't know what an avatar represents, you don't deserve to have that avatar in the first place. Don't @me

I thought this would be another call to finally update the avatar selection, which hasn't been updated since Morrowind 3 years ago.
Which was about the time they abandoned a lot of things ...
Alandrol Sul: He's making another Numidium?!?
Vivec: Worse, buddy. They're buying it.

I call that icon “Arsonist Bantam Guar, Selfie with handiwork.”

Ha-ha - true :D I didn't thought it is side selfie, but given guar's face expression, how he tries to look serious and resolute, it might be the case :D

Yeah I've seen quite a few icons in the forums that I have no idea what they're supposed to be or represent. And the curiosity in me would LOVE to have just a few words that describes them, if only because I feel like there is tasty lore to enjoy here.

Yeah...updated avatars with short descriptions would be nice since we can't upload our own.

Lol! Ironic, as I eventually chose it after a few (*ahem* perhaps a few too many!) whiskies on Friday night.

Sounds like me, I was hammered when I chose mine.

I think this would enhance the immersive experience of the game world. I've often seen symbols in the game I can't find a meaning for (like that spiky hourglass or axehead motif on the dark elf furnishings - anyone know what that means please let me know). Although I have sometimes seen symbols that seem to be incoherent with the game world, like the outfit station symbol, which looks too much like a UI symbol. And I think some of the symbols that are used as icons in the forums really don't have any intended meaning, I think they're intended to be variously and nonspecifically emotionally relatable in a way that is meant to be separate from game world politics or factions... idk.

I picked my current as its a half Dragon half snake and fits with my username
So is Jamie the dragon and Aubrey the snake, or vice versa?

I've never really thought about it like that, I just wanted 2 animals that sounded good together and these where perfect

Now I need to work out a whole backstory lol

I remember a guy here with a goat depicted on his avatar icon. Moreover he had a signature with a proudly written statement that he was a goat. I smiled while watching it, because naming someone a goat in several particular cultures is a pure abuse. Moreover in some subcultures of those cultures naming someone a goat is a direct reason to take life of the one who dared to offend that way. Sometimes people can go wrong with those animal avatars..

Well, there is also a different meaning to the word "goat", when it is used as an acronym. Then it stands for "Greatest Of All Time". It probably appears in more contexts than just one, but I hear and see it all the time in wrestling, so I know it is used like that there. Maybe that's what they were thinking of when using that name for themselves ;)

Yeah, that might be the reason :). A very multiple-meaning word. The cultures I speak of are definitely not the fans of wrestling. I won't name them here because I don't want to give reasons to anyone to offend and to be offended. The word "goat" is very specific there. "Scapegoat" is a religious term but they use it to name a whipping boy, a punchball - all those terms. The only two neutral meanings used for "goat" there are basically the animal itself and a pommel horse used in gymnastics. I'm not aware of any good meanings :). And it is male goat especially. A female form of a goat abuse used there is less abusive and is used among women only. It's just something you have to keep in mind while speaking with those people: never call them goats, especially if the "goat" term in your culture is the one those wrestlers use :).
