In the end, you cannot change it happening, so you can only change how you react to it. Might be best to see the funny side of it, have a laugh at the whole thing, then have your character pick themselves up, teleport to a near wayshrine if neccessary, and keep on gaming!

because that sort of thing happened a LOT in dungeons in that game... (back then, you had to have a "Levitation" spell ready so you didn't die from the fall when it happened, and a "mark" to "recall" to placed at the dungeon entrace to get back...)
