Bulk refining results

I seem to be getting 1 gold per 200 raw mats on average with refining stacks in the 1.5k to 2k range. I'd like to know what results others are getting with refining larger quantities since the update.

Imagine going to Las Vegas and playing a slot machine that required you to pull the lever once, then printed out a tally of the results of 100 hypothetical pulls.

Even if the win/loss ratio balanced out in the long term, in other words, RNG being RNG, it still FEELS better to imagine yourself with the agency to pull that crank each and every time, and be either surprised or disappointed by each and every result, experiencing in the full spectrum of endorphin, adrenaline, magical ritual/prayer, and emotion that risk entails.

It makes it much easier to pretend you are taking your fate into your own hands that way, as you gamble your mats away to chance. :p

I can't quantify it, but I felt like I saw an immediate drop in gold materials when the game switched to bulk refining. It would explain why Dreugh Wax is selling for 40 or 50% more than it was a few months ago.

The drop rate didn’t change, @darthgummibear_ESO ... it’s just a poor RNG streak.

It was bugged but supposedly fixed in this last update which is why I'm looking for actual results from people refining larger quantities.

It had been bugged ever since they introduced the bulk option, but was supposed to have been fixed in this last update which is why I'm looking for actual results from people doing larger amounts.

What bug is this? And where is the information on it supposedly being fixed?

I saw the note about inspiration from mass deconstruction being fixed, but nothing about mass refining. I’d be interested in the details if you can point me there.

    Mass Deconstruction inspiration was fixed.

The gold improvement mats drop rate has always been the same. Testers like @tmbrinks did great work double-checking ZOS and the drop rate didn't change.

So you're saying that the gold drop rate is the same whether you do bulk refining or one at a time? I remember seeing a lot of reports about people not getting back the same materials as doing them individually.

Yes it is exactly the same. 5% per refine attempt. As mentioned before, tmbrinks has a pretty extensive thread on the topic. See comment #14 in his thread where he specifically answers a question about bulk vs one by one refinement.

    Correct.
There were a number of people who complained about bad results when they refined a couple thousand mats once or twice, but everyone who tested in larger statistically significant amounts or tracked large cumulative amounts found that the drop rate was unchanged after Multicrafting.

Short response because I'm tired and it's late.

    See my signature.

I have results from over 500k raw materials, both pre- and post- multicraft. No statistical difference.

My whole experience is anecdotal and empiric: I get a LOT more gold improvement mats now than I did a year ago. Nope - no chapter and verse here, and no numbers, no spreadsheet. But I don't have to buy them any more (well.... I would if I want to upgrade jewelry..... but then again, I don't NEED gold jewelry....)

word on the vine is that the refine rate for gold mats is about 0.5%, which is 1 in 200.

so if you get 1 gold mat per 200 items refined... you're right on track.
Shortly after the formation of the Ebonheart Pact, a Nord woman was given a tour of the Tribunal Temple. When later asked about the experience, she seemed upset. Suffice to say, the Dunmer were not pleased to hear this, and thus they inquired further.
"Well," the Nord frowned, "the priests were very angry and unwelcoming. They kept shouting things at me like "you can't drink that mead in here!" and "somebody stop her, she's running naked!" and "we can't catch her; she's covered in grease!""

I had checked out your spreadsheet from an earlier post and my own results are lining up so it's all good. Your extensive work on the topic is appreciated.

Personal experience and not the largest sample size but... Rates haven't really changed, it's RNG and I refined around 5k of mats yesterday, had an awful gold drop from 1 profession, a higher than average from another and roughly average from the other 2. I tend to not refine less than 1k at a time and it seems consistent with the expected outliers sometimes.

The drop rate has remained the same over the years. RNG plays a role in individual results.

That's because of lack of bots, so supply is down. Refining is still the same as ever, don't worry. I refine about 5-6 thousand raws a week (so about 25-30 stacks) and keep track of my golds and average never changed.
