Can we please have an option to play without steam running?!

I play Warframe and when steam is down I put "-cluster:public -registry:Steam" into the shortcut and it plays the game without steam.

Can ESO please be changed to do that too?

I'm pretty sure right now Zenimax is paying Steam to apply steam authentication DRM which is completely unnecessary.

This might be an easy way....
get a basic copy of the game from ZoS website...
    create a new account
    login with old account..

    Won’t work. I’ve tried.
It used to but for some reason is not now.

I remember topics of people being told by support to rebuy the game. I'm pointing out that steam drm isn't even necessary for ESO. Steam can distribute games without it. Below is a tiny little list of games. :D

I had to use steam for Skyrim and hated it on a metered (pay as you use) internet. This time I refused to use steam and am very grateful that I did.

    EDIT:
I guess what I'm trying to say here is - you don't need Steam to run the game. If you perchance purchased via steam - well I guess you have to play it via steam.

You can play Skyrim just fine with steam set offline. In fact I just spent 4 hours in Skyrim with steam offline and my connection disabled. When the Library screen opens, click on the Steam option top left corner of the menu bar, and select Go Offline. You will be asked to confirm, and then steam will restart offline, and you can shut down your connection if you like. The next time you start steam, you'll just get a small dialog box telling you steam is offline and asking if you want to go online or start in offline mode.

Of course, that is not going to work for ESO. MMOs require online connectivity. But since I still play Skyrim a lot....
