ESO installer up to date?

So in preparation for the U25 patch I've uninstalled ESO and removed all lingering files. I've since read that the launcher is already downloading the update, but my question is: if I start the game installer now (the one you download from your account page), will it install an up to date version of ESO, or will I have to patch it afterwards? Because in the latter case, it would sort of defeat the purpose of uninstalling to ensure no unnecessary trash is left behind.

    Excellent question.

The installer on Steam is usually horribly outdated, so for Steam users, please for the love of Dibella, don't do a clean install unless ZOS says the Steam installer is U25.

I'm doing the same thing and already started the new installation (through the ESO site's account page, I don't use Steam). But it's only at 3% so it's going to be a while before I can let you know if it's downloading the new version or if it will have to patch again afterwards.

I would say IMO the sensible thing for ZOS to do is have just one version of the game available to download regardless of whether you're updating through the launcher or doing a fresh install. But then I also think it would be sensible for my work to only have 1 copy of each file on our website, with all the links pointing to the same place, but that doesn't change the fact that I once found 6 different copies of the same file in different locations, 4 of which were out of date.

Fingers crossed, the file on the account page for non-steam players is up to date, will check in with my mates to see if steam is updated too when they are done.

It was totally unnecessary to uninstall before patching. Except only if you don't have enough free space left, but even then, uninstall is not necessary.

You can't download the game from any website, what you're downloading from eso's website is the launcher only -idk, 100-200MB -, nothing else. After you install it it'll download the game's files from the same place where others - who didn't uninstall - get them from.

    Steam is a different story.

The installer itself is signed 19 December 2019, so I think I'll wait a few hours and see if there's any update. It's not like the servers are coming up any time soon anyway.

Thank you captain obvious :) It's not like I knew I wasn't downloading the whole game but just the installer. Hence my question about whether the installer is up to date. As for not needing to uninstall, I also didn't need to uninstall Win XP every 6 months back in the day, but doing so made it not slow down to a crawl. Considering ZOS themselves said we're downloading "the whole game", there should be no problem with completely uninstalling, and there might be some space savings if by any chance they don't remove all deprecated files.

If you're just getting the update that's true. But I also wanted to move ESO to another drive, and in the process of uninstalling found files in a few odd places I wouldn't have known to copy over. So for me uninstalling and reinstalling to the new location is easier and less likely to result in errors than trying to move all the files manually.

Just compare the size of the file the launcher is going to download. For U25 it shows ~53 GB. If your launcher shows the same, then you download the same version as we all do.

One of the two of us definitely has gone mad. It only remains to define whether this one is the whole world or just me.

I finished the whole procedure more than an hour ago. The launcher itself didn't change, it was not patched. It's the same what we had before u25. You can start it right now, and be happy that it will finish sooner than if you wait hours... unnecessarily.

If the installer available from ESO is not up to date the first thing that would happen is it would be updated. That is what would have happened yesterday if it was not up to date and so we can expect it would happen today as well.

December 2019 is very recent. Also, doubt Gina is at work yet. Probably just getting up to take care of the baby at best.
