Has there been a drastic change in joining Fighters Guild?

Is there something new or that I forgot about joining Fighters Guild? I made a new character and cant seem to figure how to join Fighters guild anymore. I have googles it and asked my guilds and in chat and all give the same answer, mostly. I get told that there are signs and guild masters in all starter and major cities to start quest to join. I have been to many cities that have Mage and or Fighters guilds and I have even been to all the "quest starters" and no one has the quest nor any quest markers.I did find a site that mentioned collecting some lore books and then going to town to get join quests but that too was a bust. So is this a bug or am I still not doing it correctly?

Only for Fighter's Guild, you need to go to the one in the starter city of your Alliance.

Go to FG for your faction's starter zone. Speak to the steward about joining the FG.

Just go to the Fighters Guild in the first zone of any alliance-- Daggerfall in Glenumbra, Vulkhel Guard in Auridon, or (I think) Davon's Watch in Stonefalls. Talk to the guild hall steward or whatever, and that should get you started. There's no special quest marker like for zone quests, just the standard quest marker.

EDIT-- It doesn't even need to be in your character's alliance; any of the three cities mentioned should do (except I'm not sure about Davon's Watch being the starting city for EP).

Nothing changed. Walk into the guild building in the first major city of Auridon, Stonefalls or Glenumbra, someone has a quest and you get the skill line right there.

Fighters guild levels by killing undead/daedra/werewolves. (Even if you don't have the guild skill line yet, you can earn exp, when you get the skill line, it should have the exp you earned.)

Mages guild levels by collecting lorebooks, they glow blue in the world.

Do you mean that any alliance's starting city works for Mages Guild, but not for Fighters Guild? If so, that's good to know.

Yes, you can join the Mage's Guild and Undaunted in any Alliance's starter city, just not the Fighter's Guild.

I thought the fg was bugged and its only working in Northern elsweyr at minute. Had same issue making new character recently.

Um. I ran into Mordra fishing outside Spindleclutch in Stormhaven. On an EP toon. She invited me to enter the dungeon, then find her in Daggerfall.

    Done deal.

I don't even use a major city to join either guild.
My primary residence is Autumn's Gate in the Rift, so I just jog over to Nimalten, basically right next door.
There's a guild hall there with stewards for both FG and MG.

I've heard you can join the Fighter's Guild in Northern Elsweyr, but since my characters were made before Elsweyr, I'm not sure. It's probably intended though, since new characters start in the latest chapter owned. My characters are old, so they joined from the starter cities.

I must have spaced out and skipped the starter city in my search but it is correct that only the correct faction starter city and no other cities offer the join quest,

    That's not my experience. YMMV.

Yep. That you need to go to a starter city is not true.

I don't remember if I joined the MG and FG in Vivec City when I first started playing, but it would make sense to be able to join them from the chapter DLCs, since that's where new characters start.

Actually, I started a new char yesterday, and I could ONLY find the fighters and mages guild joining-npc's in my own factions first FG/MG. And yeeeep, it's Davons watch :)

Edit: I mean, My DC char, couldn't find them in Vulkhel Guard, but I do think they're in Vvardenfell and Alinor/Summerset too.

I just tested this on three unjoined characters, one from each alliance.
At the guild hall in Nimalten, in the Rift. And it worked.

Nimalten is not a starter city.
And, even though it's in EP territory, joining both guilds there worked on characters in all three alliances.

    Edited to add link

Much may depend on when and where you created the character, and on whether or not you own the latest chapter if creating a new character today.
