Seriously - I don't know how you guys can take a game that several years old and running on several year old engine and graphic tech and manage to jack up the coding on maintenance so bad that you make the game worse.

Its not playable right now.

    Inb4 @ChunkyCat gets it locked?

    And, how is ChunkyCat?

pst... I want to let you in on a secret...

Most engines are several years old. UE4 is decades old.
ESOs graphics tech is actually pretty new considering they use PBR, inverse kinematics, Havok, etc...

Yet the game hardly used the GPU at all....

Most games barely use your GPU anymore. Most games are bound by the CPU. Heck even most GPUs are bound by their CPUs.

This is because GPUs have progressed at a far more rapid pace than CPUs(thank intel for 15% IPC gains).

You would be extremely hard-pressed to find a game made in the last 20 years that actually pushes the GPU harder than the CPU(and yes I know you'll scream some terrible example that with 10 minutes of googlefu you will discover is actually CPU bound).

I don't need to Google anything. Every game I play on my pc uses the GPU more than this game. According to afterburner, ms game bar, Corsair link and a few other monitoring aps. Of course they still use the CPU but this game utilizes a very sad amount of the GPU. Hell the fans don't even turn on on my 1080ti for this game, my 7700 k cpu however is quite active, however this game only utilizes pretty much one core of the 8 available oddly enough. It needs serous optimization and TLC

Almost every single "CPU utilization meter" is horrifically flawed and inaccurate(including windows perfmon).
If you push one part of a thread to maximum(say the FP unit) and use nothing else... those meters will list 26% utilization even though that thread is absolutely maxed as far as the program is concerned.

When I say "bound" I do not mean "fully utilize". You will find only a handful of programs in existence that can even touch 8 cores let alone the 12+ the newest big CPUs have. You will also very rarely have a program that has been coded properly enough to actually use a significant portion of each core's total capacity. Remember a CORE is not a THREAD. A CORE can run MANY THREADS but a CORE can be limited by a SINGLE thread reaching capacity.

Right now ESO uses 40+ threads. That's not up for debate it's actually what the program uses.
Why is this important? Well one of the biggest problems with "multicore" or parallel processing, in general, is that you generally need to have a "captain" thread in control of all the lieutenants and sergeants. Anything "multithreaded" is single thread bound period dot end. When this software was designed dual-core was the common processor for higher-end machines. Due to that fact yes it doesn't spin off threads efficiently because when made it didn't need to. Fixing that debt requires time and updates like U25.

There is no magic line of code that says /utilize all possible threads.

Op you aren't wrong. My buddy and I both turned it off at 820pm last night because of pump faking on all skills with them not actually firing the majority of the time.

*xbox na by the way. What I've noticed is that starting at 4pm cali westcoast time the performance starts going down hill until between 8-10pm I end up shutting it off because of unresponsive laggy rubberbanding gameplay .
