Character selection menu and backgrounds

So we can now order up and down characters in the order we want them on the character selection screen. how about the ability to choose the background setting the are in on the character selection menu? idk about you guys, but I am never in Auridon anymore except for times related to event tickets. makes no sense for my characters to be standing in Auridon?

I don't hate the idea but quite like the Auridon background myself.

I hate Summerset architecture.

Yup.

It would be very low down my list of things that need to be done, but it would be cool if they amended the backgrounds every so often. So maybe they reflected both the Alliance and the latest storyline.

And not as silly or frivolous idea as it might seem, given we all look at the character screen BGs every single day. Updating them regularly would be a subtle indication that stuff behind the scenes had also been updated.

Just wondering: Is the picture bound to the alliance one chose for the character, or on the race somehow? I'm not sure, since I don't have that option to choose the alliance freely which was included in the Imperial Edition. So all my Dunmers have that snowy Skyrim landscape in the background. I always found it odd. Especially, since I'm not PVPing with them, and one of them even strongly rejects the idea of a pact with Nords and Argonians. I'd love to have a proper Morrowind background for their screen, preferably something with ashes and lava. But one basing on the last place they have been would be fine with me too.

Yes, the background is dependent on the alliance of the character.

You'd think there'd be some value in allowing us to set one our owned homes - including how we've decorated it - as a background.

To promote housing and sales thereof.

It's probably faction based as is to promote Cyrodiil, which I think is a lost cause.

I like that idea, but I fear that might be a bit too complicated? But they could at least base the screen on the homeland of the char. 10 races = only 10 different pictures. Sounds makeable to me.

It wouldn't be complicated.

If they pulled furnishing data from the server and had it assemble the house for the character selection screen that would take time and slow down character selection screen load times.

But since your character is never moving around on that screen - at most just twirling on the spot - a screenshot would suffice. That could be stored on player machines. For that matter so could furnishing data (for this purpose) if they wanted to assemble live.

The only potential downside would be players editing those images. But if anyone was a mind to do anything malicious in that respect, there's already other ways they could do it.

That's a yes from me. Even though, unlike the OP, I'm pretty much always in Auridon lol but the option to choose different backgrounds would be a welcome addition. I feel like at least every race should get a unique background. It looks weird when you see Bretons standing in Alik'r or Argonians in Eastmarch.
