So these were the charities that people suggested for the Pie King Charity Stream happening during the upcoming Jesterfest:
- The Water Project (digging wells for clean water in Africa)
- Child's Play (putting toys and gaming systems for the kids in childrens' hospitals, clinics, and domestic violence shelters)
- Doctors Without Borders (providing medical relief/aid in war-torn areas of the globe)
- Directly Into Neoealth's Pocket (what it says on the tin)
- The Australian branch of the World Wildlife Fund (to aid in restoration after the bushfire devasation there)
- Wounded Warrior Project (giving physical and mental medical aid to post-9/11 wounded veterans)
- National Canine Cancer Foundation (does research and education/outreach regarding canine cancer)
- The Grey Muzzle Organization (facilitates care and adoption for elderly dogs who would otherwise be put down)
- Action Against Hunger (provides aid, education and infrastructure to combat world hunger)
- St. Jud e's Children's Hospital (researches and treats pediatric catastrophic diseases)
- International Rescue Committee (provides encompassing aid to refugees due to humanitarian crises)
- Special Operations Warrior Foundation (provides post-secondary education financial aid to surviving children of special ops personnel who have lost their lives)

And now it's time to pick one! Hooray! Unfortunately I can't fit all the options in one poll, so I had to half-and-half it. Apologies!

My docs all go to places most people wouldn't ever consider (and so does my stepdaughter who is a neonatal nurse with 35 years in the field). These people donate time and money (their own) and often wind up with a more than close encounter with stuff:

Last year, one of my docs went with a group to Haiti. While they were walking down a highway (as there was no transport available just then), they saw a horrific accident - a speeding van hit several people on the side of the road, and left. There was no license plate. The docs did what they could but before they could even start triage, three of the seven people hit were dead.

Doc Doug tears up to this day - because there was nothing he could do fast enough.

Doctors Without Borders are awesome. They're highly leveraged against donations, since the doctors themselves commonly volunteer their time. [snip]

So they're the charity I back with the most regularity.

I vote St. Jud e's as I have an autistic daughter and they have helped us when it came to traveling to see doctors while we were getting her diagnosed. If the Ronald McDonald house was in there, I'd vote for them too. They gave my wife a place to stay and food to eat as well as rides to and from the hospital when my daughter was born as she had pre birth pneumonia (don't know the medical term for it) and almost died.

The Water Project

The need for clean potable water in rural areas of Africa and other countries is probably the most impactful. It also helps promote technology that is going to be handy in other areas including here at home.

Doctors without Borders and St. ***'s would be my next choices, then all the animals.
