Regarding Event Timing

Can we get an explanation regarding the reasoning behind having the Murkmire event smackdab in the middle of the PC redownload of the game? There were less daily rewards for February specifically so players wouldn't miss out because they might have days they would miss, yet there is time specific content during those same days they would miss. Seems like a very inconsistent position from ZOS, and a little questionable re. business practices, like ZOS might be trying to push people to buy event tickets.

It could be they're actually trying to be fair across different platforms.

Fewer daily rewards in February doesn't do anything for 2 out of the 3 platforms ESO can be played on. They are probably going to do the full month of daily rewards in March, meaning 2 out of the 3 platforms are going to miss out on those. Timing of this event celebration means 1/3 of platforms will miss out. As such, each platform is going to miss out on something because of this update instead of 2/3rds of them missing out on everything and the other 1/3 missing nothing.

It's only in February for PC. If it is back to a full month of rewards in March, I guess console players are screwed. Good to know...better not be anything crazy at the end of March rewards, like 100,000 Gold or something... :/

We are planning to have March be a shorter month as well to account for the console release of Update 25.

At the end of the day, this doesn't affect me that much. It's pixels in a game. But that doesn't change the fact that it's an inconsistent position for ZOS that could result in higher revenue for them. Even if it might not affect me, that doesn't mean I shouldn't call out shady business practices.

Terrible timing, and event tickets have become such a grind that this is terrible news for those of us who take some effort to try to complete all stuff.

I'm not pleased with this news at all...

It could be a permanent trend where there will be less daily rewards. It wouldn't surprise me that some bean counter said the rewards were impacting Crown Store sales so the freebies have to be cut back. Or maybe they just got tired of the forum player base always complaining about free stuff.

This thread is about as accurate as the one that claimed ArcheAge's re-release was going to kill ESO by using steam's login numbers as evidence.

It seems some players will literally complain about anything.

To be honest, players being concerned at missing out on some event time (planned by ZOS) and the shiny baubles that come from that, due to a forced game re-download update (forced by ZOS), seems like a fairly reasonable thing to "complain" about. Especially when ZOS limited daily log-in rewards specifically to NOT conflict with the update, but then set up an event to run... during the update.

The fellow who was highly upset that his character log-in screen has a message of "To unlock more characters, visit the Crown Store!" is a MUCH better example of "some players will literally complain about anything".

Also note: this is coming from a PS4 player, who is not affected by the event dates in any way whatsoever, but can see where people are coming from because empathy.

That very well might be the case, but the official reason (whether it's accurate or not) is so that players don't miss out because of the download.

Yea I’m not upset with the idea as much as just confused why they don’t just start it Tomorrow, end it the 24th, then roll out the patch to follow.

I think Dark Elves planned the Murkmire Event

Is it the principle of the thing? Because I can't see people having both a horrible connection and a horrible game schedule where they'd miss out on some of the rewards for this thing.

TBH I am more upset with the inconsistency that ZOS is giving us here. They reduce the daily login rewards with the explanation that they are doing it to allow people the chance to download seamlingly understanding that it will take people an extended period of time to do so. And then schedule an event right in the middle of that same period.

That's my problem with it. I have a decent connection so I probably won't miss much time, if any, and even if I was missing more I don't need all 39 event tickets for the items I want. But I do think it's problematic that ZOS is changing their position on "we don't want players to miss time-specific content because of this redownload" when it relates to the thing where people are able to spend money to make up for the lost time.

Whether it was intentional, an oversight, or any other reason- it's bad optics. It makes it look like they chose these times specifically for the event in order to increase event ticket sales.

Let's add to that by pointing out the event tickets now "have a chance" to drop from monsters and bosses, as opposed to the guaranteed "drop on first kill of boss" we've had in the past. Because unless that was a typo...

Tickets are always per day per account, any info otherwise is probably a typo or not specified (The boxes will have a chance to drop, but the tickets wont)

My thoughts: They can't do it tomorrow (due to probably not having things ready to go, QA checks and PSN Updates require heads up) and they either do it when PC players are downloading, Console players are downloading, or right before the April event (Jester's festival)

So they chose the least worst option. I don't think it had anything to do with driving people to buy tickets. I find that 2 berries (20 tickets) leaves enough for one or both special rewards and a few tickets extra.. plus the chance to get those rewards from simply playing the game.

39 is a lot of tickets. They could have made it one or two a day.

The awkward part is that they usually announce an event 1 or 2 days before it starts. Most people assumed it would be announced today and start tomorrow. We finally get some more notice, but it's a kick in the face for PC players. ZOS love to keep us on our toes.

39 is a lot of tickets. They could have made it one or two a day.

The issue isn’t how many tickets you can get for free per day but that they’ve gone from completely guaranteed to completely RNG-based. The language seems pretty clear there is only a chance for tickets to drop from any monster or boss: “The Murkmire Celebration is also a new opportunity to earn Event Tickets. During the event, the zone’s monsters and boss monsters each have a chance to drop Event Tickets.” It’s definitely written differently from past events like Elsweyr, where any mob had a chance to drop tickets but bosses were guaranteed to drop them.

In practice the drop rate will probably be fairly high, if they don’t want to drive people away from events, but it’s worrying to me that the m.o. is being shifted from “here’s the set activity you need to do to be guaranteed your tickets” to “just keep grinding mobs until RNG favors you.” There are plenty of other things locked behind RNG for us to grind. We really don’t need to see these subjected to it too, especially since they’ve been guaranteed from the beginning. Even if they only intended to draw out how much time we spend in game per day doing the event, the optics of converting this limited-time also-available-in-the-crown-store currency from guaranteed to RNG-based aren’t good.
