Returning player Question

Subjectcrank
I don't plan to do the PvP in this game basically sticking with PvE, but my question is this, Is it possible to just be an explorer/lockbox hunter? I realize I will have to pick some type of combat but this is my goal. A Nord Thief who just explores and hunts for lockboxes and when in combat uses a staff for range? will this set up work?? I had a kitty thief last year that i was testing this set up with but don't want to play him, my little Nephew decided to kill guards for fun in Morrowind and I am sort of worried about reputation hits, if that isn't an issue that would be nice to know cause then I wont delete him LOL. But other than that, I just need to know if this thief build is doable as a Nord? Thanks

There is no reputation in ESO. You gain a bounty that ticks down with time (including while offline). Chances are if it's been a while your kitty doesn't have a bounty anymore. Just login to check (it's in the bottom right corner and on your character sheet). If it was that big, and you still have one, you can pay it off if you feel inclined. Or see if you have any Leniency/Pardon documents. Or just avoid guards really well. ;)

Race really doesn't make much of a difference as far as thieving goes. Khajiit may have a tiny advantage, but it's not a huge difference. The only difference between races are their racial passives. With the content you aim to be doing, the minimal differences they make shouldn't in any way be noticable. Whether it works with some specific build you setup, I can't tell you though. :p

If this is content you enjoy doing, it is possible to just explore and hunt for (potentially already owned by someone else) treasure. I can't imagine limiting myself that much, but if it does the trick for you then absolutely go for it.

Every build works for overland content.
If you are worried about your nephew killing npcs, you can turn on prevent killing innocents from settings.

Totally possible to do that, if you wanna really go into the thief aspect of the game, there is a gear setup that helps with making it more fun and fits with the role-playing aspect of it as well.

3 piece Night Terror drops overland in Stormhaven
Reduces the radius you can be detected while Sneaking by 2 meters. Reduces the cost of Sneak by 27%.
    Night Terror set info

    5 piece Night's Silence craftable
(5 items) Ignore the Movement Speed penalty of Sneak.
    Night´s Silence info

Account sharing is against TOS if I recall right but doubt ZOS will do anything.

Just not something that is smart to advertise.

If you are vampire then you get the sneak speed from passive.

That's totally fair. I can't list all of the people I know in ESO that used to do hardcore raiding, got burnt out and exclusively do housing now. :p Happens to all of us in the end, I think. Good luck getting your thieving on. :)

Thanks! I mostly been solo since then, Housing sounds interesting I managed to receive one as a perk for logging in during the content update for them, but I don't have many decorations. been too busy in SWTOR. but haven't played that in a few months and seen ESO is getting a Nord update with Vampires, so I thought I would come and "Try" get back into this game.

Housing in ESO is admittedly a massive gold sink -- I think that's why it's often ex-endgame players that end up there. Building up your inventory of furniture and learning blueprints etc. takes both time and money. That said, there's quite a bit of that stuff that's acquired exclusively through stealing, so maybe you'll find something nice just falling into your hands. :D There's a few ways to get free houses, though there is only one larger one (that requires different questlines for unlocking rooms,), while the others are single inn rooms. 3 of the inn rooms are base game, the rest require other content owned. I'd also be very surprised if we don't at least get another free inn room with Greymoor this year. :p
The point I guess is, there's definitely a lot of content to do even as a solo player that's not focusing on combat, and I wish you good luck finding some casual fun in ESO again. :)

Yes it's possible to just sneak around hunting for treasure chests and thieves troves. Yes you will occasionally have to fight as well, especially because enemies are often right beside the treasure chests and opening one removes you from stealth.

It might help to make your character a nightblade because they get more invisibility/sneak skills which will allow you to avoid even more enemies. Medium armour also has a passive skil which reduces the cost of sneaking and the detection radius, and various equipment sets will also help with it.

Although my crafter doesn't bother with sneaking and he's often able to avoid most combat simply by carefully choosing a path between enemies, and sometimes galloping away if they do chase him. There's nothing in the game to show you what an enemies detection radius is, but after a while you get a sense of how close you can get before they'll attack.
