--This one is starting to get moon sugar and skooma withdrawl symptoms.
This one is on a forced 1 day 11 hours withdrawl program as 87.3 GB is the total size to download.
About 28 GB was salvaged from previous installation so download is not as much as 87 GB

This one might have to venture into The Real World whatever that is, as time is running backwards- after about 3 hours this one must wait another 1 day and 13 hours :-(

Literally just opened Steam to see myself. No download, nor earlier today.

Is it possible that something may have gone wrong with OP's install specifically?

Steam does update now and again and is nothing to do with the eso launcher. But it normally only takes 30 seconds to a minute.

Unless you mean steam is replacing lost or corrupted files in your eso folder. That would account for it downloading so much data.

    That's what I am thinking.

The only time I ever ran into something like this on Steam was when ESO was freezing up really bad a lot and I started getting overly aggravated by it, to the extent that I would go to the Task Manager and shut down ESO, then if Steam was also frozen I would shut down Steam.

Turns out Steam doesn't like it when it gets shut down before it's properly closed out all of a game's files, to the point where afterward it might not acknowledge that you have that game installed, thereby requiring a full download of the game all over again. I think there's supposed to be a way to locate the files manually and point Steam back to them, but I wasn't able to do that, so I don't know whether it works.

And my problems with ESO freezing up all the time? My HDD was almost full-- meaning the many, many GBs of space I still had free wasn't enough to keep Windows happy, plus there may have been other problems with my HDD that I wasn't aware of, and one day I suddenly got a warning that my HDD was about to fail, and then before I could back up any of my files or put in a new drive and transfer my data, the HDD did crash.

So my advice would be that if something happens and you find that Steam needs to download ESO all over again, do a check of your HDD or SDD to make sure it isn't teetering on the edge of failure. And if you ever find yourself needing to shut down or force quit ESO, be very patient and don't shut down or force quit Steam while it still says that ESO is "running."

Also, get a laptop that's good enough to run ESO on, even if it only runs worth a toot on the lowest of the low settings. If you are as addicted to ESO as I am, you want to always have a fallback solution.
