I have an idea about how to implement new weapons cost effectively.

I know the biggest thing against adding in a new weapon is that it has to be fitted back to all the styles, but what if they don't? How about when a new weapon comes out it will only get support from a huge chunk of sets when it comes out then after that it will continue to gain support. Also if ESO team does this and adds a lot more weapons then an even better idea occurs. If we get to the point we have a few new weapons added then it could mean that some new sets won't feature every weapon. So for example maybe it doesn't make sense for a Paladin type of set to have throwing stars so they don't add them but add maces and swords ect.

They would still add the same amount of skins in each motif set just mix up the weapons to the ones that fit the most.

If the devs were inclined to add new weapon types they could do it easily without the need for new models. A lot of the skill lines the community requested in the past wouldn't require new models/skins, "just" animations and actual skill lines (both of which are still a lot of work).

While I think that we need new weapon types to offer new ways to play our characters, the devs seem reluctant to add them due to balancing reasons.

Hopefully they will be working on performance as they have stated.... :#

Not if you do it smart anyhow.
Been there, posted that: https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/371862/additional-weapon-skill-ideas-mk-ii/p1 ;)

And as I keep saying, since there are style pages that give two visuals (1H and 2H version) and style pages that give only one visual (dagger, bow, staff, shield), they could easily add a secondary weapon to those "single" style pages range. Like... "staff" style page also gives "polearm" for that motiv, "dagger" page also gives "throwing weapon" for that motiv, or "bow" page also gives "crossbow"...

And there are possibilities that don't really need any visuals as well. I mean... the often requested "One-handed & Magic" would only need a magic clow around the offhand, right? With a tiny "runestone" or "wand" weapon that is too small to have any details, and this looks the same for all motivs... just a small rock/wand in the offhand. (or also mainhand since if they make this, then it should be dual-wieldable as well)

...which would go entirely against the ESO concept of "Free Weapons Selection"
Which really is a basic game mechanic!

You mean, like they never add new sets? :p;)
Nah, balancing will -always- be an issue, and yeah, new weapon skill lines would be a bigger issue then just a new set or three, but a smaller issue then an entire new class I reckon... and thus stil not something that would be too difficult...

Especially since unlike, say, classes... any new weapon skill lines would not need to be -perfectly- balanced, as its everyones choice if they want to run with it, and everyone still has all the old ones as alternatives available well... and thus the fine-tuning could be done over time with the usual rebalancing updates.

Don't get me wrong here, I definitely want new weapon skill lines but the "balancing" argument was used as the reason for not adding any in the past.
Personally, I think "perfect or near perfect balance" is an illusion in any MMORPG anyway.

Man I don't care about balance. Ah to think of the possibilities if ESO was a pure PVE MMO and then think of the possibilities if it was a single player game. This game is so... mediocre compared to any real RPG from the past. It's too bad no one can make good single player games anymore.

        Edit
The dev's control the numbers and if they wanted t every weapon in the game could do the same damage and have the same skills just different animations. Except they don't because your all gullible enough to believe their excuses. At the end of the day they are lazy and don't want to actually add anything truly big or major to the mmo.

Well with 1h & Rune they wont need to make new weapon meshes at all, just add the vfx for the runes.

Well the new excuse is "too hard to balance" now. Which seems hilarious as all they need to do is make the weapons do the exact same damage in terms of numbers and make the skills all do the same thing across all weapon skill lines. There done, but nope they will think of some new arbitrary excuse to make the most minimally viable product.
