Starting Zone - how would you rather start your game?

I know this is a very debated topic, but I've never seen a poll about it.
Hopefully if this gets enough answers it will get enough attention? Or maybe I'm just being naive.

I think there should be one starter dungeon or prison or what ever. Then, we should be able to pick the area we actually start the game in.

It could simply be a Dock or even a Wayshrine where we choose our destination.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

I voted for Cold Harbour but I'd like to see more guidance for new players. I just started playing (well since the first week after release, hated the game then...). It was very confusing starting in Vvardenfell. It wasn't until I found a very helpful post on these forums on the correct order that I realized I did not start the story in the correct order.

I agree and felt the same way starting in Elsweyr.
I'd much rather start in Coldharbour and be able to follow the story properly. Just feels very haphazard to teleport myself out of a starting area to be able to play the game in a logical order.

I think all new players should start in Cold Harbor by default. And players who start a 2nd+ character should have an option to choose.

I always wanted a "Welcome to ESO!" message with options. Like "New here? We recommend you start the game at the beginning [Soul Shriven]. If you want want to start the newest story right away [xxxx]; If you want to start in a specific region from previous chapters." If you select the previous chapters; then you can select from a list. I always do the tutorial, and for some of my characters it makes no sense from them to go to one zone or another. I have ideas about backstory. For the new player, if they bought everything, and got a little eso+ thy might not know where they can start out like: oh I could just start in Vvardenfelle?) Or people can select which tutorial they want.

I think every new played should be given the option to start at the beginning. I got the base game when Vvardenfell came out, and didn't start there, because I just had the base game. Imagine my surprise when I bought Vvardenfell. and made a new character? I didn't know that I would get a new tutorial, and spent a long while wandering around before I realized I could do Soul Shriven in Coldharbour.

Barring the ultimate "live a new life" choice; I would rather have everyone start in Coldharbour, and the landing starter islands can have the travel points to the different chapters. Given everything is based off what came before. Like Dolmens > Geysers, etc. The base zones, ramp the player up. To me starting as a new player in Elsweyr, is like "I'm about to do my first dungeon, White Gold Tower!" You're learning, new, and a bunch of vets are around eating the monsters in overworld, and you're still trying to figure out how to do more than light attack all the time. I imagine it could be frustrating, as a person who started out during an event, and watched vets just destroy a delve boss before I could run up to it.

Fair enough. I do find it annoying to pay for a subscription and Collector's editions and not be given the choice to access the Tutorial content for chapters I paid for...

If I had my way, we'd get a splash screen with something like this:

Year of the Dragon - Face the wrath of dragons in Khajiit lands in ESO's latest Chapter Elsweyr! Year of the Dragon includes: Wrathstone, Elsweyr, Scalebreaker, and Dragonhold.
Begin in Elsweyr. / Skip Tutorial

Daedric Wars - Foil the dark plots of Daedric Princes while aiding the people of Vvardenfell, Clockwork City, and Summerset! Includes: Morrowind, Clockwork City, Summerset
Begin in Morrowind. / Skip Tutorial
Begin in Summerset. / Skip Tutorial

Planemeld - Captured by the Worm Cult and your soul sacrificed to Molag Bal, embark on ESO's Main Quest to save Tamriel and regain your soul! Includes: Elder Scrolls Online (Base Game)
Begin in the Wailing Prison. / Skip Tutorial

Add in Greymoor and new Chapters as they launch.

This would probably be the most sensible option.
I also don't see how this as being a massive technical challenge - the tutorials already exist anyway as different people own different chapters, so it's literally as simple as giving people the option of where to start...

So you know all about the planemeld, three banners war, and why you can res as azure plasm from the elsweyr tutorial? The one I played just laid out that necros and dragons were a thing. Those things have been missing from the tutorials for ages, you have to kind of infer it, or if you do manage to do the soul shriven quest assuming you end up in a main alliance landing zone in any relative quick fashion. I like the more succinct tutorials for mechanics f the game, but they don't... fully explain why things work the way they do. Or really explain it at all. Might not matter for some, but for others that's prime territory to get absolutely lost. Especially if you're coming from 1 elder scrolls game or none.

As the game is now, I would choose the original start set within the wailing prison, in Coldharbor. So when I am commonly told Molag Bal has my soul, am called the soulless one, and all other dialogue about my characters not having a soul before playing the beginning of the main quest would make sense.

If all of that dialog were changed, then I would like to choose where to begin.

The tutorial that was the most fun and the most well-written in my opinion was the Morrowind one, although the Elsweyr tutorial is really good, too. The Summerset one was really disappointing.
I wish I had the option to do the Morrowind tutorial again on all my new characters.

I have a Guild that help Newbies, you don´t have idea of how confusing it's to them to start on a Chapter, and how boring is to explain ZoS dumb decision everyday

And it's even more confusing when you explain that they have to go to, let say Stonefalls, to find the hooded figure to finally end up on the true start on Bleakrock, it make them loose all the feel of surprise when passing between lands on the history line

A choice is the no lose option for everyone. Maybe a tool tip to explain a bit about that starting location like " This is the most recent chapter added to ESO" or " The original start to your adventures in Tamriel. Perfect for those who want to follow the story in the order it developed"

I also hate forced tutorials though and i recently added another account in which i was forced to play through the tutorial. It was so annoying and boring
