I was thinking the same thing. Someone asked if there was a betrayal quest the other day like in EQ2. It does make a lot of sense.
Looking for any guildies I used to play with:
    Havoc Warhammer - Alair
LoC EQ2 - Mayi and Iskiab
PRX and Tabula Rasa - Rift - Iskiab
Or anyone else I used to play games with in guilds I’ve forgotten

I never understand this concept, you've to choose a faction when you start your char but you don't know with who you gonna play in the futur, hell I didn't even know about PvP when I started the game...

Just let people change faction once a year so their is no abuse of it. And let it by free. It's your fault if we have the wrong faction.
You should just redesign this so you've to choose your faction when you go in cyro for the 1st time with an advertisement than you can't change after this so they've to choose wisely.

Maybe consider the consequence of your actions? WoW has been out what, 15 years? I don't think there's ever been a chance of switching an Alliance character over to Horde. For crying out loud, you want to take the game apart and have it rebuilt to fit your particular idea of what the game should be? Make another toon in the right faction and level it, if you're already 810cp getting a toon from 1-50 doesn't take more than a couple of days. I wish ZOS actually had a spine and had refused many of the whining requests from the players since beta. The game is becoming a Frankenstein's monster of patchworked systems, story lines, etc, all so players can take "play as you want" in the most literal way possible.

5 years of achievements says your “just roll another toon bro” arguments is rubbish.

I totally understand that ZOS cannot allow players to choose their own factions because they need to have roughly equal numbers in each, but it’s rubbish that I can’t play my main character with my friends, because why else would I bother with PvP?

Equally, it’s silly to say, just have one change and stick with it as you have no idea who you will be running with in the future.

1 more reason why no one can be bothered with PvP in this game.

You don't need to have every achievement on every character, any actual reward such as costumes or dyes are account-wide. Also, 5 years is far too long to suddenly realise all your friends are on a different faction. My very first character, made during early access, was EP. I made another EP character, then an AD character, then a DC character. Since then all my characters are DC. On the rare occasion I PvP, it's on DC. A few months experimenting with factions should have been enough to tell you which one you wish to play on, should you want to limit yourself to one. Otherwise, as I said, just make different toons for different factions. You want to turn the game inside out because you want to hop around factions, I don't think you should be able to.
    FierceSam wrote: »

Because that throws the entire concept of alliance warfare in the trash. It's bad enough that during beta ZOS changed the game to allow a player to "experience" the other factions through Cadwell's Silver and Gold. That wasn't the case initially. It made much more sense - if you belong to a faction, you belong to that faction. Want to play with friends? Coordinate with them and everyone make toons on the same faction.
    FierceSam wrote: »
Equally, it’s silly to say, just have one change and stick with it as you have no idea who you will be running with in the future.
You have a choice. You can stick with your main. You can make multiple mains, i.e. develop multiple characters equally. You can make multiple alts, i.e. characters that you simply level to whatever point you want and don't necessarily complete all quests or achievements on. What I don't think should be allowed is have everything at the same time, as it cheapens certain aspects of the game.
    FierceSam wrote: »

I could make the opposite argument. For me, the faction hopping on the same account and PvP server is the turn-off. It cheapens the notion of belonging to a faction and fighting for dominance, all for a much more instant concept of PvP where all that matters is the individual fight or skirmish. There are other PvP modes, including IC, Battlegrounds and duels, where you can play on a fight by fight basis. Cyrodiil should have remained unashamedly AvAvA as advertised before launch, and that should have required players to make meaningful choices. You were never prevented from playing with friends. You just didn't want to pay the price, i.e. stick to one faction and possibly creating a new character if you got a group of friends playing a different faction.

A faction change token with a cool down of 1-6 months is not taking the game apart, it's a compromise.

A faction change token with a cool down of 1-6 months is not taking the game apart, it's a compromise.

It's more complex than that. Initially your choice of faction also determined which races you could choose, and the order in which you played the zones and their respective level. Regarding the first aspect, any race, any alliance was not meant to be available post launch, as it was a pre-order bonus if I remember correctly. The game was designed for a character to remain in their faction. You can now purchase any race, any alliance in the store, and One Tamriel means zones don't have strict levels any more. But you still have an original faction and I don't know what might break if your character suddenly became a different faction.

In order to have the token, yes, you need to take the game apart, some of which has already been done, and some would still need to be implemented and checked for issues. And all this so you don't have to make a new character, which you could take to your desired faction in a few hours at level 10 and max out in a week.

Another reason I object to this is that it encourages a style of gameplay that is less MMO and more fighting game/FPS. Hop on the game and play on equal footing with everyone else from the get go. I understand the appeal, but an MMO is (also) about developing a character. I'm not saying you have to RP your toon, or stay in character, or anything like it. But when you can be max level right off the bat, why should you bother leveling? We might as well be getting rid of levels, vertical progression, gearing up, and just drop everyone in game with access to every skill and item. That can be a valid concept for a game. It just isn't an MMO, and it isn't what ESO set out to be, in my opinion.

    OMG

They have already said this will never be a thing.

Not what you want the hear, but that's how it is.

So you do have choices, not the choice you want but again, that's how it is.

    1. Roll a second character in your chosen faction and play with your friends

    2. Don't roll a new character, and go kill your friends on your current faction

    3. Don't roll a new character, make new friends and find a new PVP guild on your current faction

    4. Do nothing and continue to be unhappy

Isn't it nice to have choices?

A faction change token with a long enough cooldown would not break the game any more than simply swapping to an alt and waiting for any alliance locks to run out. I'm not sure why people keep saying it would be game breaking.

Faction change is one of only 2 things that you can not respec currently with the other being your class. While ZOS has said in the past that they don't plan on adding faction change tokens I don't think it has anything to do with game balance. The reasons were tied to the mechanical difficulty of faction swapping regarding player questlines related to your faction such as progress with Cadwell's Silver/Gold.

If someone can explain please how a faction change token with a cooldown tied to the end of campaign swap (or even longer) is any more imbalanced than just swapping to an alt, I'd love to hear it.

    __________________________Backstories:_________________________

Ras Kalik the Vestige, a renown Redguard warrior; He has been blessed to save Tamriel from Molag Bal’s destructive Planemeld while reuniting the Five Companions. His further accomplishments after defeating Molag Bal, has been to stop the destruction of Morrowind, the Clockwork City, return order to the isle of Summerset and create a new king in Wrothgar and a queen in Elsywer. These events have made him a living legend and continue to lead him into new adventures throughout Tamriel, as well as into the hearts of many ladies including the Elf Queen, Aryenn. Over many years of adventurous travels, Ras Kalik had become a loner, until he re-visited his homeland of Alik'r.

Alik'r and it's cities were overrun by the undead Ra-Netu and therefore he made an allegiance with Alik'r's own Ash'abah tribe. These Ash'abah with his help, cleansed the city of Sentinel in Alik'r desert and it's surrounding areas of the undead brought to life by the Withered Hand. After rescuing Sentinel from the undead zombies, King Fahara’jad’s personal bodyguard the Goliath of Hammerfell, who was given this name by Imperials in the region; was asked to assist the tribe after learning of the defeat of the Withered Hand to the Ash'abah. Kalik promised Goliath he would task him with fighting living enemies on the battlefield if he so desired. Goliath being a Yokudan warrior wields a massive sword in respect to the Ansei, a gift given by the Imperial, Cinan Tharn. Not many soldiers are able to wield double two handed weapons, but Goliath loves to get up and personal in a fight, so he also carries a giant maul, both weapons laced with magical flames.

Jux Blackheart is a master thief that masquerades as a Bard at the Sisters of the Sands inn, with his younger sidekick Lucky Hunch for pilfering and gambling during this time. Jux was known to infiltrate any towns bank vault he came across and even delved into Ayelid ruins without detection. Kalik can vividly recall the night he met the famed thief. Jux found himself rummaging thru a slightly inebriated Kalik’s pocket for too long, on a full-mooned night and because of his greed and the glimmer of his golden armor in the moonlight. He lost his left pinky fingertip as a lesson! But in return, he gained a new friend, as it was his first time since a child being caught red-handed...

Upon arrival back in the Alik'r after many moons of adventuring, Ras Kalik ventures to Bergama. Visiting The Winking Jackal, he runs into Jux Blackheart, who introduces him to the coin game Crowns vs Forebearers (Heads vs Tails) and Golden Dwemer (RBG).... Jux constantly takes gold from the unfortunate thru theft or gambling, his biggest gambling victim is actually his partner in crime known as Lucky Hunch the Gambler. Lucky doesn't mind losing any gold coins to Jux... as Jux saved him from Altmer slavers in Summerset, by stealing a key and sending him on a boat to the mainland years prior. Lucky spent years in slavery with Khajiits in Summerset and picked up the art of subterfuge, using illusion magic disguises and stealing there.

Kaotik Von’Daemon an outcast, and a half-caste between a Breton mother and a Redguard father. Kaotik become a pariah due to his conjuration of Daedra pets. He was taught healing magic during his childhood years by his Breton mother. His father due to Redguard customs exiled him from the desert, sending him by wagon caravan to be a soldier in the war in Cyrodiil. He happened to meet Kalik while traveling from Alik'r, during this long caravan ride the caravan he was in was ambushed in Bangkorai by a group of bandits. Kalik by chance was also traveling thru this area on his Auridon Warhorse (which was bestowed to him by his friend, Darien Gautier). During this ambush, Kalik was able to rescue five hostages from the bandits. Kaotik was the first rescued, and Ras Kalik also recruited him to be in the Ash'abah tribe. These core Ash'abah tribesmen may never be seen together in travel as they partake in their own adventures but they always know what each other is doing; as they frequent a hideout in northern Bankorai. Their hideout an old Orc castle ruin, is kept watch by Nuzhimeh and she passes messages written between them, and frequently they also enjoy her company and her bed.

The other men rescued were a Dunmer banker, an Imperial mercenary and two other soldiers, an Imperial and a Breton Knight, stating proudly he was an Akavir descendent. One of the Imperials, Cinan, claimed to be related to Abnur Tharn the Battlemage of the Imperial Elder Council (One of Ras Kalik's mentors in the Five Companions). Cinan Tharn was really Abnur's drunkard treasure hunting illegitimate son. He was caught smuggling artifacts out of the Ayleid ruins in Cyrodiil and the elder of the two Imperials was Tyrus Septim a retired Imperial navy battle-mage (now a Lycan mercenary living in the city of Rimmen) and guard to the Tharn family. As much as Abnur Tharn hated his half-sister Euraxia, he dislikes his bas†ard son Cinan more. Tyrus now a ruffian and privateer had been paid by Abnur Tharn to watch over Cinan as much as possible. Cinan Tharn a drunkard, loves to drink at least a quarter barrel of Nord mead before he raids various delves and dungeons for relics to sell on the black market. Cinan also plans to one day, run an illegal gambling ring... which he thinks will net him more gold for his wares.

The Dunmer captive shackled to the Imperials looked familiar to Kalik from his time in Morrowind.... and he recognized him as Tythis Andromo a House Telvanni slave-owner and banker from Vvardenfell. During a rough interrogation to Tythis, Ras Kalik learnt why the bandits accosted him. The racist Dunmer was providing slaves as soldiers for the Three Banner War. The bandits were trying to negotiate a lucrative ransom for Andromo and the Imperials.... Kalik did not need any of this gold and he could never set Tythis free as he did with the two Imperial soldiers. His past involvement with slavery and war crimes, made Kalik's blood boil. He chose not to execute Tythis, as he figured the worse punishment for this former rich and opulent slave owner, is to now be an imprisoned servant for Ras Kalik and the tribe.

Herzog Zwei the Genesis a reknown Imperial/Akavirri battle-mage. His roots going back to Akavir through his mother’s bloodline. (His mother is descended from the Akaviri, through Versidue-Shae, and his Imperial father met her in Hakoshae, while traveling) Herzog earned the nickname "the Genesis" from his father as a child, as he was his mother's first born child, and last, as she tragically died in child-birth.

Herzog was seeking to purchase an artifact from Cinan Tharn, before their capture and was meeting Tyrus while in Rimmen, who introduced him to Cinan. This artifact being the Ayelid artifact; the sword Sinweaver. After their rescue and the exchange of gold to Cinan for the sword he decided to slip away before Ras Kalik could question who he was, and why the Akavir descendant really wanted that sword. Herzog was headed to Nagastani — An Ayleid ruin in eastern Cyrodiil. He had read in scrolls that the Sword would give him magical powers to meet his mothers spirit, if he performed an Ayleid ritual at an old shrine hidden there. Equipped with the artifact sword, he was off to start his own adventure but Ras Kalik, did indeed notice the sword however and instead sent a letter to Jux Blackheart (whom also was interested in Ayleid treasures), to attempt to find Herzog and acquire the sword. (*Azani Blackheart in Elder Scroll's Oblivion is Jux's descendant some 747 years later)

And so the Redguard, Imperial and Akaviri men parted ways ... While Ras Kalik went off to Elsweyr to encounter the latest threat to Tamriel, with Abnur Tharn and Sai Sahan - - DRAGONS!! Little did Ras Kalik know a few people were awaiting him in Senchal besides Sai. A necromancer survived his attack on the Withered Hand, while in Alik'r. The necromancer known as Auriek Siet'ka is also following him to the land of the Khajiits and Cacique the Sage of Ius a Shaman mystic who has become attuned spiritually with Tu'whacca (a Redguard God) and Ius (the Animal God), after being burned severely by the escaped dragons in Elsywer, is awaiting his arrival also. Aurik is a soldier of the Daggerfall Covenant that was introduced to necromancy while in the military, even though this magicka art is not spoken of openly by most of the Military leaders. He came to Alik'r and worked with the Withered Hand before Ras Kalik intervened on their plans. After the defeat of the Withered Hand, he aligned with the Worm Cult, and is constantly adapting and perfecting his necromantic arts.

After his journey to Rimmen, Kalik heads south to Senchal, in the southern regions of Elyswer. This new adventure will also put him on a path to meet a strange Redguard man. The stranger which was infected with an untreated Peyrite disease and also was the exiled from the Order of the New Moon cult, due to his sickness. He originally joined the cult to worship Laatvulon, the green dragon, mistakenly thinking it was the Daedric prince Peyrite. This confused and suffering cultist is known as Tsar al-Bomba and he is on a path to spread the disease. He was originally infected in Orccrest while recruiting members there. Can Ras Kalik and the shaman Cacique cure this poor soul, only time will tell. Little does Tsar al-Bomba know, that his infection is tied to Vampirism, and eventually the desire for blood will take over his mind. Senchal also offers Kalik his latest love interest... Aeliah. Whom he fondly led thru battles with the Dragonguard.

After the trek thru the heat, tropical and desert climate of Northern and Southern Elyswer, Ras Kalik heads north to the cold mountain range of Skyrim. His companion friend Lyris beckons for him with a letter sent by crow...

Movárth Piquine - a former vampire hunter (now infected), within the Fighter's Guild (and a secretive necromancer) was in Skyrim working with the Morthaal Guard. On a patrol mission he was caught in Frewien's ice curse outside of Morthaal with the frozen undead. Movárth's vampiric infection kept him from becoming an undead minion to the curse. He was able to use necromantic ice-magic to encase himself safely until he was freed with Freiwen, when the Vestige Ras Kalik broke the curse.

Uri Ice-Heart - brother of Urfon Ice-Heart. The twin sons of Atli and Oljourn Ice-Heart. The Ice-Heart family are originally from Markarth but now reside on the Jerall Mountain range near Cyrodiil, with their younger sister Araki. The twins had joined the Winterborn Reachmen while living in Markarth. Urfon pushed west to Orsinium with the Winterborn Clan, leaving his family behind. Uri stayed behind with his parents and sister to live in the family cabin for safety, avoiding the Vampire plague infiltrating the Reach. After news reaches him and he hears of Urfon's death... Uri leaves and heads home and is seeking vengeance. Meanwhile, his sister has also moved on to Windhelm to join the Fighter's guild. He will visit his sister, once before going to seek vengeance and she will craft him armor mixed with ice, called Stalhrim armor. Uri fearing death, after his brother's passing, falls victim to the convincing talk of Movárth at a Nordic tavern, and will also becomes a vampire.

    {time moves forward through the hour-glass}

It would be sort of tempting (though it’s never going to happen, probably) to be able to play my main with my favorite guild. But I can’t betray Raz like that :p

@Zos if you are not able to balance faction so give us faction change token.

Yeah because THAT will not increase the imbalance with players changing to the winning side.

all these DC and AD scum crying about “faction balance” 😆😆😆

in their defense, if i wasnt in the EP master race i would want to change factions too!

but... IMO being a clumsy blue or a stinky yellow should be the lifelong penalty of making a poor decision.

A faction change token with a long enough cooldown would not break the game any more than simply swapping to an alt and waiting for any alliance locks to run out. I'm not sure why people keep saying it would be game breaking.

It's because a lot of people are petty, and more interested in telling people why they shouldn't have/do things than actually play the game and have fun.

BRB have 6 useless characters I can no longer use in pvp.

Interesting that the "clumsy blue" won the last 2 campaigns in a row PS4 NA. :p

I don't see a need for faction change but if it were in the game it should be a one time thing per character. Also should cost a good amount of AP and cause your character to be demoted severely in rank. And of course the character would be locked out of the faction locked campaign until that campaign resets.
and then the parrot said, "must be the water mines green too."

Nopes, would allow Richie Rich's go-getters to change faction nonstop depending on the loosing tides.

If a faction change token were to be, i'd vote people couldn't change faction-tied campaigns (at the very least) in cyro for the duration of their campaign regardless. Otherwise, I'd be ok with it.
    Edit = Typos ... as usual. <;D

I believe they should do it but MAKE it an one time use only and you MUST have any race any alliance and ALL toons gets changed not just one !!!!!
And btw i have all 3 Alliances maded but find i like 1 better then the rest and it would be nice to play my main in the alliance i like best not the 1 its in

In my opinion if they ever change their mind about it, it should be restricted to character that arent currently participating in a campain
Like if i do 1 ap on my ep in cyro i cant use the tolen on him until the campain end otherwise poeple would hop faction to get reward

But i do hope it will never happen

I would like to be able to do it just once per character. Purchased the game day one on ps4 and made 8 characters, the max at that time. Placed them all in different alliances not really knowing what that would mean. Never deleted a character and do not ever plan too. My problem I know but it would be nice if I could put all my characters in the same alliance.

Again, ZOS has said no to this because it is a deep problem with how you play the game and could not easily done. So, I must live with my choices I made at the beginning of the game years ago. So be it but it would be nice to change all 18 to the same alliance but not earth shattering either.
