Daily Crafting Writ Question

I have alts that are 50/50 in crafting professions. But they don't have the skill points to be able to craft (say, Rubedo Leather or Ancestor Silk gear.)

To receive gold materials like Rosin, Kuta, etc. do I need to have the skill points assigned to get the gold mats?
You wouldn't worry so much about what other people thought about you, if you knew how little they did. - ??

No, but the drop rate is tied to the number of skill points you have invested, and does go up significantly as you put in more skill points.

There is only an ~3% chance of getting gold improvement materials at tier 1, and it's up to an ~30% chance at tier 10.

Your chances of getting gold upgrade mats are much, much lower on a character doing base level writs. It’s possible, but very unlikely. But your chances of getting a survey from that character are the same as on a max tier crafter. Doing the surveys and refining on a crafter with all the skill points invested will give you more upgrade mats than the writs do, by far.

    Unfortunately, that is not true.

At max tier, you have a 30% chance of getting a gold improvement material.

At any tier you have a 12.5% chance of getting a survey, which will yield about 120 raw materials, and that gives you an approximately 60% chance at a temper, from those 120 materials (120/200, since the drop rate is approximately 1 in 20 refines, or 1 in 200 materials). So you have an effective 12.5%*0.6 = 7.5% chance of getting a gold upgrade material from the drop due to a survey.

Thus the writs themselves are 4 times more effective (at max tier) at giving you gold improvement materials than the surveys are.

Now, you will get the other improvement materials from the refining.
You'll get about 0.9 Purple from it, 1.5 Blue, and 1.8 Green above and beyond, which for Woodworking (since Mastic is rare) might be worth it. For the others, it is not.
