New privacy policy is up and there are a few things you can do to help yourself out.

1. Opt out of all services from these two websites:
https://optout.networkadvertising.org/
https://optout.aboutads.info/

EU http://www.youronlinechoices.eu/
CA http://youradchoices.ca/choices/

2. Send an email to privacy@support.zenimax.com or snail mail (really? Who does this) asking for your data they have on you and to requset no-tracking and to opt-out of third party adverts
Privacy Coordinator
ZeniMax Media Inc.

3 Opt out of facebook retargeting
http://www.facebook.com/settings?tab=ads

4. Change your google ads preferences
http://www.google.com/settings/u/0/ads/authenticated?hl=en

5. Use a VPN and ad blocker when browsing the web or TOR or all three.
https://torproject.org
https://adblockplus.org/

You are not going to be able to stop it all, but taking these simple steps will reduce the amount of chatter you see online regarding ESO and targeting advertising in general.

... using tor to avoid targeted ads? I think a bit of a stretch...

Does it not work? It will work fine.

You can kill a fly with a machine gun just as well as a fly swatter

Also it was the last suggestion, not like most people would even download it off a link from a gaming forum anyway

if ads are shown anyway, what does it matter if it's shampoo or a car since nobody cares about ads? if ads don't popup and don't bother whatever activity i am doing, then i don't bother them either.

I generally prefer not giving out my info at all and blocking the random junk instead of trying to "opt out" of it. Also uBlock Origin and NoScript.

(Many years ago when data protection become a thing, I made a project to wipe myself from any marketing lists. It worked. I almost never get marketing calls - I think I did not get any on 2019 - and even my email spam folder is rather slow.)
