Midyear mayhem: Why is it so difficult to find a group in cyro? PC NA

Recent

✭✭✭✭✭
I spent almost 40 mins LFG in cyro zone chat and felt completely ignored. The worst of it was when some dude decided to troll me. All i did was type lfg.
I could see other players lfg and they got invited, i guess they are known to other pvpers so get invited sooner.

I levelled my character in cyro and i dont consider myself a newbie but i did have a break and i lost contact with players i enjoyed pvping with.

I miss being a part of the big midyear mayhem groups that consisted of a nice mix of vet and newbie players all working together and helping each other. I hope that fun community is still out there.

I would like to know what is the best way to get a group in cyro? I didnt see any guilds recruting in cyro this year either

Ive been reading all the replies i got and i really appreciate your insightful comments. I feel more confident to go out there now ...i had forgotten that it had taken time for me to be accepted into the pvp community and i did have to prove myself. Also im a giver and am always well stocked with siege and its on my qickslot.
I cant thank you all enough for your support here i allowed myself to get negative and that never goes well.

Happy midyear mayhem all 😊😊😊

most groups are organised guilds and do not like "PuGs" there is also alot of miss-trust in cyro so everyone assumes everyone else is out to for the "other side", best thing to do is look where the fights are pick up a zerg and follow it, res a few ppl and drop some siege down once they see you fighting awhile try LFG then you may get more success

    What platform and faction?

PC EU Pact you can usually get a group, not always large groups of pugs, but still.

Right now there's way too many people just there for MYM looking for groups,in comparison to groups made for that purpose. A lot of usual Cyro goers also may be wary of taking in too many PUG players right now. And not a lot of people go through the effort of just starting a group and filling it with the horses of others looking.

It depends on what's going on with that campaign. On PC, I look for people saying "type [whatever] for group" because they've generally got an addon that automatically picks up people who type that text string. If there are groups running specific text strings, they generally don't pick up anyone who doesn't type that phrase.

If players are picking up, something like "LFG, will follow crown" might help getting into a slightly more organized group. "LFG, have siege" will put you above most of the PUGs in groups I've been in.

If no one's picking up, I pay attention to zone chat to figure out where the zerg is going and zerg-surf. The benefit of being in a group is that you don't have to guess where your allies are going, but you can be just as effective if you find the group and follow them.

Not sure how well known you are with PvP:

Don't take it personal: some PuGs have automated invites, it can vary between campaigns, the availability of PuG-leaders and amount of free spots within a group.
I wouldn't know how you would see who gets invited and who doesn't if your not a member of a PuG.

If you observe zone-chat you might see: "type [x] for group".
Check whether you type the 'secret' password in /zone mode. /say mode doesn't work.

PC EU Cyro No CP for example can have lfg, kley, kley2, fire, fire2, cpt, elite as automated invites.

Main reason is most random people don't contribute to group.
They don't buy sieges, they dont support etc.
So I just run with my guild if I group.
Also they don't know how to follow crown, they get caught up in quests or zone chat people.
    So. Annoying.

It’s because most people just type LFG and then complain when no one invites them. If no one is inviting then make a group and invite others.

Suggest looking at the map and head to the battle! Type LFG a time or two. Someone will invite you or when you see LFG in chat invite that person and form your own group.

Started out last night with me and one other player and before long we had a decent group of 6 and had fun taking resources and keeps till the Zerg showed up. LOL

On PC-EU it can take some time to get an group but 40 minutes is long.
Note that on the overflow servers most are probably just doing town quests and the ones taking towns are mostly organized groups trying to get an emperor.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

We group both guildies and Pugs

Ive yet to have any issues getting into groups whether with my guild or in a pug. What platform are you on? Which Server are you on? if you're in a lower pop server could be an issue generally in the higher Alliance locked ones (atleast for xbox NA) Im always in groups. Even before I joined my guild on a Saturday Im in a group within 5 minutes

I'm pretty sure its because they're running around IC trying to farm bosses so they can get a style page. Which wouldn't be an issue if they raised the drop rate on them.

I've been finding groups more often than not the past couple of days on PC/NA. I've been playing on the unlocked 30 day campaign, with both DC and EP characters.

But I try not to just say "LFG". I add something like "DK with heals and buffs" or "Sorcerer with healing pet and Negate". I'm not even close to being the equal of an experienced PvPer, but I do think I'm a net positive to my groups.

Due to the event, the number of people looking for groups greatly outnumbers the number of people willing to dedicate their playtime to nonstop group roster management and being responsible for directing a hoard of complete strangers, only half of whom are geared, experienced, or even paying attention to you.

Pugleaders are selfless heroes. Usually there are enough people willing to play that role for the “unguilded” in Cyrodiil. But during the mayhem there’s a huge influx of players, and new servers without an established community. More of those new players will need to step up and start leading groups. Consider being one of them.

Most people in Cyro are clique-ish. Some look down on folks typing “lfg” and act like they are hot shot PvPers and troll others in zone. The “community” that does that are usually potatoes who log into Cyro just to type nonsense all day long.

Keep typing “lfg” or make a group and invite to it. Then, pass crown if you don’t want to run it. Just show up at fights and fight in the meantime.

There are cool people in Cyro and there are chumps. Don’t back down to the chumps in zone.

Thank you. What you talk about here is exactly what i got caught up in but i didnt want to seem like i was hating on pvpers or being all negative so i kept my post as positive as i could. This year cyro is a huge clique. Today i just played solo and ran around behind smallish or medium sized groups, helped out, repaired doors etc but noone invited me to join them. I did the best i could and i left cyro depressed tbh.

Heres an awesome for your comment

Don’t feel bad. REALLY don’t feel bad. I would encourage you to keep PvPing. Even keep looking for groups.

The thing is this. Those people typing nonsense in group or ridiculing folks for looking for group aren’t the best pvpers in Cyro. I don’t care WHAT their rank is or how long they’ve been playing. If they’re sitting around in zone typing nonsense all day, they been playing since beta and STILL potatoes.

The best players, say someone 1vXing ain’t typing in zone. They ain’t even READING zone. They’re not playing objectives and don’t care about who wins the campaign. Same for many small mans farming AP. Top tier ball groups the same. They don’t care about zone. They’re not trolling or ridiculing new players in zone. They don’t have to show how good they are by tearing down new players.

Incidentally, should you whisper and talk to some of the better players in the game, 1vXers, People small manning, members of the better ball groups on other factions, generally they are the nicest people in Cyro. They’ll give you tips, help you with your build etc.

The only TRULY toxic people like The Jesters (straight CLOWNS that they are), on ANY faction are like the scrubs, the ALMOST good, those who THINK they’re good and aren’t. Never mind them. Go to Cyro and have fun. You’ll make friends there and form your own groups.

In most factions there is usually a pug group running with autoinvite. So if you pay attemtion to zone, you should figure out the string of chars to get the invite.
If you can't figure out the invite string after a few minutes, there probably isn't a pug group running. And, if there is and you can't figure it out, you probably won't be seeing the directions your lead is posting in chat. So, you would be a burden on that group.

I never "lfg" in chat, but Thursday and Friday I had a great time zerging with a group I ran into while I was on my way to do my scouting missions and capture resource missions.

Saturday night was more frustrating, because my alliance was getting trounced and the few players that were on didn't seem to give a damn about it; one by one they switched to one of the other campaigns. So I started focusing on doing my missions, but eventually some players showed up in zone chat looking to take back our keeps. I had some fun running with them for a bit, even though we were getting wiped pretty regularly by the other two alliances, who vastly outnumbered us.

Then Sunday morning a new batch of players shows up, and one of them was very toxic and insulting toward me, so I left the group and went back to doing my missions, scouting and capturing resources deep in enemy territory.

My advice would be to forget about trying to group with anyone. Just do missions, and help out any groups you might run into, but don't wait for them to invite you, and don't feel guilty about going your own way afterward if they act like they don't want you around. Most players are great people to play with, but there's always going to be that one toxic jerk who's going to go out of his way to be nasty and try to ruin your fun. Best not to stick around those types; just put them on your ignore list and then go have fun doing your own missions.
I've fought mudcrabs more fearsome than me!

You have basically 3 ways to get picked up:
    A warm body zone pug
A guild group that supplements with pugs
Being awesome or helpful enough that a group that normally doesn't pick up pugs invites you to see how you do in group.

There aren't many pug groups because pug herding is a major pain and is largely thankless. The few that do the pug herding may be sitting in queue or in another campaign or already have more pugs than they can handle.

If you are sitting at the gates asking for a group, you aren't making AP. If you don't have a group but want the goodies, read zone and go where people are asking for help or where cross swords are on the map. If defending and you don't have a clue what to do, read yell chat for people calling for positions, bombs or needed countersiege. One player running 3 oils over a breach can be a game changer for a defense... plus reaping you AP for "tagging" players before they die.
