"easy" is very relative... It can be once you know what you're doing and what are the enemy patterns.

Your first runs are mainly about getting the good setup and learning each arena's mechanics.

Get prepared to die a lot.

Exactly brain surgery maybe easy for someone who has done it a bunch but for the average person not so much.

I keep hearing how this and that is EASY and yet when someone tries it for the FIRST time it typically isn't easy.

Experience and muscle memory are critical to make things EASY in games.

Ill keep practising, i have surge for heal, and i may and try and farm ice heart, i do have the llambris set though

Ilambris isn't very good for vma.

What part are you stuck on? Maybe someone could give some more specific advice.

Danksta, I now have iceheart, I'm running plague doctor, necro with mothers sorrow jewellery, necro staff all either purple or gold, just wondering how to make the weapons more powerful as I see people melt a boss in 3 or 4 shots and I can do it but still takes longer, was just wondering if there is anything I could use

    Great that you got Iceheart!

Mess around overland and notice Iceheart's proc. It's a loud pulsing sound with icy rocks floating around you. Once you understand that you can cast a shield whenever it is down. Having a shield up almost all the time plus Crit Surge will provides tons of survivability.

You can add to that your resist skill and the Matriarch burst heal. The former keeps damage down and provides mobility without False God; the latter really helps when first learning poison level, final boss, and helps when there's environmental damage occurring in between mobs like the blades in the 2nd level.

Plague Doctor route works for some, but not others. I was in similar position and tried the PD build. The lower damage meant enemies died slower and I was running out of sustain healing/shielding. I tested a 3mil parse after completing; it was in the high teens with Necro/Juli/IH (heavy attack). So, you don't need big damage, but getting somewhat close to 20k certainly helps sustain and getting through some mechanics. My ability and knowledge at that point didn't benefit from PD as it drove my damage too low.

Months later I'm working on the leader-board and have looked at quite a few logs. I've seen a top 10 score with Iceheart worn. Leaving that thing on all the way through flawless is definitely very helpful.

A final consideration: if you have any willingness to do a normal trial, the false god set's sustain and mobility makes a big difference. The time to farm it is likely less than the time wearing it would save in vMA.

I see lots of builds and posts on how easy it is to complete Malestrom on veteran, really, I have a mag sorc with mothers sorrow jewellery and lighting staff and 5 piece necrpotence, staff are gold and armour is either gold or purple, I still can't do it, even watchbthe walk through videos, any ideas.

Forget about builds. The gear you have is fine and so are dozens of other sets. Maelstrom is 90% about practice. Learn when and where high priority enemies spawn in each round will help you more than any set in the game. Learn which attacks you need to block or dodge and which attacks you can shield or heal through and which you can just ignore. Once you know when, where, and how to deal with enemies you can make a plan for each round - when to save ultimate, when to grab a particular sigil, how to prepare the arena for mechanics.

Many players find vMA easy once they've completed it a dozen times but nearly everyone struggled to get their first clear. Keep practicing and remember that everyone who has completed it has been in your shoes when they were learning.

To get that damage you'd need to sacrifice the survivability you were clearly looking for.

I would recommend going with two full 5 pc sets. So either get mothers sorrow staves or necro jewelry, jewelry I believe will be cheaper.

Here's the secret to vMA: Don't quit.

It doesn't matter what gear you wear or how many videos of perfect runs you watch. Do it enough and you eventually figure out the mechanics, learn how not to die, and how to kill stuff faster. The learning curve is different for everyone. Just don't give up.

I think vMA is really much more about knowing the mechanics than having the right gear, as the mechanics are quite unforgiving on vet. Gear can help to survive a few mistakes, but overall you have to know the fight.

If you are not going for the leaderboards much of the gears shortcomings eg. damagewise can be made up for with the arena's buffs.

My magicka dps sorc uses by default Zaan, Mother's Sorrow, False God's Devotion.

The only change in gear to complete Vet Maelstrom is the monster set being changed to Iceheart, while maintaining the other 2 dps sets.

From my experience, this makes it a lot (way waaaaay) easier than a tanky setup having low dps, because you get away without having to deal with troublesome mechanics repeatedly as killing them faster greatly reduces that frequency.

Then it's all about your skills setup, a couple of skills that shield or heal and single target dots are very useful, since they allow you to stay mobile while dpsing.
