Ideas for Utility spells.

As I was swimming (slowly :s ) around for a quest the other night I suddenly imagined how great it would be to be able to sprint short distances on top of the water, not only would it save a bit of time but it would add a tiny bit of immersion for us mages.

If you've played any other TES game you'll know that there's a handful of spells you can acquire that aren't necessarily combat based. Some mages are able to walk on water, levitate, or even open those pesky locks that might stop you from obtaining extra loot.

Water walking is just one example of how magic skills could be used as a tool rather than a weapon. Slowfall could also make its way into the game. Pop slowfall spell, jump off a cliff and take in the view as you gently glide to the floor like a boss. B)

I really hope to see more useful spells make an appearance in the future. I was hoping for a college of winterhold skill line with the new expansion but nothing has been announced yet unfortunately. Anyway, let me know what spells you'd like to see added into ESO, or what you think about non combat spells in general.

    It may be a question of whether or not the engine is capable of it.

    I'd add a "locate object" type spell. Especially since on PC there are already cheats that let them do that for node-bound objects (e.g., resource nodes, treasure chests).

    If you cast an expedition spell before hopping into water you swim faster until it runs out. (Rapids, race against time, roll dodging with a bow)

    Back in beta they talked about skill crafting which including skills like this as well as some new combat skills. Its been on there list since then, never removed, but also never added. There are a few youtube videos back when they showed it off during beta. Shows some of the skills, how you would find them (puzzle type games), and put them together.

    We all have been asking for it since they showed it but sadly another chapter goes by and it didn't make the cut, maybe next year....

    I like that idea a lot, it could put a PoI over the node. Cool!

    Cheats? You mean addons that use the API which is allowed by ZoS?

    I'd also add a transmute ore spell which would allow you refine certain ores anywhere in the world.

    a) YES!

    b) Can waterwalking, levitation etc. be implemented in a way that does not break PvP?

    c) Can the engine do it? Remember this is the same game/engine that can't do cloaks.

    I always wondered why cloaks never made it... :o

    I think they would make PVP more fun personally, anyone that levitates in pvp is going to be a massive targett
