You won't have to delete the game. When the 'big' patch happens it will be an automatic update. The only problem you may have, is if you don't have the download space to fit the update and old game during the patch process. On PTS the update was something like 65 gig.

I have the space (300 gb out of 500 on my SSD) - but I don't have the bandwidth. *sigh* I'm going to have to bite the bullet and either buy gb ($75 for 25 gb - and not sure that's enough) or beg a friend to send it to me on stick.

Zen's patches add and remove files all the time. This time they will be removing 30gb of data when they are done. You need do nothing but patch.

My old laptop that wasn't high-end when bought is going to be problematic.

All I do in the game while traveling is log in for hireling emails and daily rewards, but I like being able to do that.

Why do you say space to fit both the update and the old game? You know what overwriting is right? The process should replace your current installation with the new one.

In general, my experience has been that Windows (of whichever version) isn't really able to manage that very well (been a windows user since 3.0). Now as for consoles, I don't have a clue as I've never used them. But I do know that windows will pitch a right fit if it even "thinks" you have an "empty space" issue.

The launcher downloads all the new files first before overwriting the old ones. If you don’t have that extra 65-70Gb free, you have to delete the old installation first.

I'd honestly be very surprised if any PC user has a completely full Drive in this day and age.

Yeah, you'd think that, what with the average drive being rather spacious. But it depends on the age of the computer and what you've got installed. My old computer didn't have a huge drive by today's standards, but it was pretty spacious. But I installed several different DAWs and a whole bunch of virtual instruments and soft synths on it, followed by ESO, and one day the little bit (as in between 50 and 100 MB) of free space I had left wasn't quite big enough for Windows to do its usual housekeeping with, and it all came crashing down. :(

My SSD had most but not all of the space required. So delete and reinstall it was.

I think you don't understand what will happen.

will the end result be a smaller sized game? yes.

But you aren't just deleting files when the update hits.

When the update to the client arrives. it will most likely do 1 of 2 things.

1: do a uninstall of the game files. before re-installing the new game files that are smaller in size due to most likely some new type of compression.

or 2 (more likely): Overwrite your existing client with the new game files. leaving behind space that can now be re-used because the game files moved on your disk drive.

So you have to download the whole client when it arrives, and that can take a bit for those with slow internet speeds or limited bandwidth.

And people with Data-caps will really be f-ed.

So of course people with limits want to know when, so they can prepare.

Yeah, slow speed + data cap.... I'ma have to beg a friend for a stick again.... Or con husband into letting me spend $150 US for prime time data "upgrade".

Ain't hap'nin.... So I guess begging is my only option.

Three full 2TB hard drives and 2 500 GB nVME SSDs filled with games, game recordings and captured videos. If your hobby includes videography and editing, space flies by fast enough.

    Thanks, that's March.

I'm sure ZOS said on the News forum that we would all have to delete and reinstall the game, not just patch as normal, but I guess more news will be released closer to the time. I initially heard that this was happening at the end of Jan, but I guess its not. Shame, as hoping it will fix the game, with all the crashes cyro is pretty much unplayable on PS4 atm. Thanks for all the input guys.

I would have been another one with a full hard drive (not literally completely full, but no where near enough space for another copy of ESO) if I hadn't finally gotten a new drive as a Christmas present. I was starting to worry that the update would hit before all my drama with dodgy Amazon sellers was sorted out and I had a working hard drive installed.

Although that means I'm still going to delete and reinstall regardless of how ZOS do it, because it seems pointless to overwrite it and then move it to the B: drive when I could just do a fresh install straight to the right location.

Typically a system will download the file and than apply the patch. Because how that operates you need the data size for both the patch and the current download you have; this applies to consoles as well. Once completed it will be a smaller size file.

Me too, I reinstalled the whole game recently and just left it overnight and was done by morning so its no real hassle. It also reduced the size of the game on my HD on that occasion, so its worth doing.
