When do we redownload the game client?

Doing it now won't do anything but have you do it again when they add Harrowstorm dlc to the real launcher. Its part of next major update I doubt it can be done now.

I was just finished doing it while replying to you im hoping it made some sort of difference. I don't mind redownloading again as long as game improves

Redownloading it now makes zero difference, the launcher will force you to redownload when U25 hits.

I don't think it's a forced download. The announcement stream made it sound like it's an option to download it (as they mentioned insentive in the form of a free pet?).

I think the PTS update will be to test the new download. So the entire PTS will have to be redownloaded.

Should really be confirmed!

Yeah. Thats what I originally thought. But again, that announcement stream. Feel free to correct me with what they meant

I hope this reduction in data wont have worse texture quality or less objects in the world.

I think they are compressing the files further, so smaller packets can be sent... then unpacked in the background once in game. But who knows.

Yes it will be "forced" download, you will be prompted by the game client that the update is pending, and you wont be able to press "Play" until it is done.

@jaharramakesapotion U25 will probably go live late in February, after 6 cycles (weeks) of PTS. Hits PTS today.

Yes it will be "forced" download, you will be prompted by the game client that the update is pending, and you wont be able to press "Play" until it is done.

Yeah the pet is an 'insentive' in the way of "sorry for inconveniencing you" because this will pull hours, even full days, of playtime for a lot of players. For me it'll probably be most if not all of my playtime for a day since it is bound to happen on a week day.
Still, as long as it does mean faster loading time and general performance improvements I all for it.

Shouldn't be. They are getting this reduction through use of compression methods that they were not using before.

Although, they did say they were removing assets that were not longer being used, or were not going to be used. We should (hopefully) not notice this.

As everyone has to run the same client at all times, this isn't an option.

It is too bad that they can't use the up-to-date PTS as the base for the released version, so that all that is necessary is to copy it over and apply a final patch. With PTS and Live, we basically have to download the whole game twice.

This is standard procedure for quite some time, don't know why so many doubts regarding a big game update: several cycles (weeks) in PTS, then a week later hits live on PC/Mac and after that 2 weeks later hits live on consoles...

PS - I think some don't really understand what PTS means/is: public test server

It will not be optional, they specifically said everyone will have to download the game again.
