If you pay the extra to get a furnished house, are the furniture items able to be removed/relocated/stashed/destroyed?

You can move them around, bank or destroy them, but they're account bound (like all crown stuff) so you cannot sell them or put them in the guild bank.
It's usually not worth it to buy furnished versions, though. Craftable stuff is usually fairly cheap so unless you're interested in Imperial furnishings it's easier to buy everything from guild traders (or craft it).

Thank you, I think you are right about it not being worth it also

    Not everything.

Some of the furnishings that come with the furnished versions of other homes can't be crafted or purchased with gold. They can only be bought from the crown store and at greater cost than just buying the furnished version.

eg. Tel Galen's furnished version includes a lot more of the amber Telvanni lights and several Telvanni style paintings. Those paintings aren't always available from guild traders and when they are, typically cost 500k gold each. If you actually like the amber lights - I prefer the blue ones - the cost of those alone would be more than what you pay for the furnished version.
