Russian Localization. How to stay out?! - Solved!

Russian Localization is a thing that Russian players asked for since beta. I'm from Russia, can I somehow avoid this and stay at the English version?! Many Russian players will love it, yet those interested in the lore will not. Any chance to stay in English?!

There is a switcher in options on current launcher, I guess there will be there.

I don't see any problems here, comrade. Playing in English myself and don't have any plans on moving to Russian. They surely will not make it a mandatory thing.

You can also switch languages (text-only) while playing with
/script SetCVar("language.2", "en")
(or de or fr)
NB: It will probably mess up your item names when switching on the fly.

If you play on console and want your game to switch to a particular language, you can change the language settings of your console. That's a workaround for all games that do not offer a language-select in-game. For English localization, the console needs to be set to English in the system settings.

I had the same concern when hearing the news (in fact, I requested a forum invitation specifically to voice this concern!).

You will note that the option to switch languages is only available for English, German, and French - but ESO has also been localized into Japanese. As it turns out, the Japanese version of the game has its own client that players can transfer to if they reside in Japan. This help page on the Japanese client states that the transfer is permanent, and once you switch to the Japanese language, you cannot roll back.

Obviously, those who want to keep playing in English for whatever reason (such as language acquisition, or studying the original lore like the OP) would simply avoid the Japanese client. They have that choice.

My concern is whether Russian players will have the same choice. I have had previous experience that states otherwise, namely with Electronic Arts, whose Origin game client only has two in-game language options for people located in Russia: Russian and Polish (at least, that was the case with Dragon Age Inquisition, Mass Effect Andromeda, and Sims 4).

It would be nice if, at some point while working on the localization, the ZOS team made some clarifications in re:

Will Russian players still be using the same client, just with an extra language added to the gear icon?
or
If there is a new separate client like in Japan, will switching to it be optional?

Don't get me wrong, the news of the upcoming Russian localization is very exciting. I am already seeing lots of people expressing interest in ESO, which they could not play before because of the language barrier. And as someone who studied English-Russian translation and cross-cultural communication at uni, it always warms my heart to hear positive messages to the Russian community like the one before the Greymoor announement. But it would be great to have a choice.
