What is up with noob bullying?

Minitay
Minitay
Soul Shriven
I heard from friends that it has been a subject lately, that groups of players bully low level characters for farming in Craglorn.
Didn't really think of it much until a friend got me some live screenshots.

[snip]
[snip]
[snip]

Do you guys really think that much of Craglorn farming?
Like, is your opinion about atronachs so strong, that you bully low level characters?
The player in question wasn't even a noob. They were a champion trying to level up their healer.
Just saying, some players out there really need to get a grip.

And if you are farming in Craglorn... well, watch out for these guys, I guess.

Edit for naming and shaming.

While what they're doing is selfish and repugnant - i'd censor the names immediately. Naming and shaming is against the forum rules and I don't want to see your thread squashed for it.

You should've blurred every gamertag. Mods might pay your post a visit now.

But to shed some insight on why "vets" get like this, especially during an event that creates a desire to farm. Mobs respawn on timers, and when there's a high demand on farming them, players will create a mob pull rotation and everyone will group up and run the rotation together, so as to maximize efficiency in loot drops and xp gained. If a group is running the rotation and then some randoms run up and fight adds ahead of them, that's now thrown the respawn timers out of whack and interrupted the group's efficiency, thus wasting time.

I know low level players aren't expected to know this which is why I personally don't give them crap about it. (I rarely farm to begin with), but just wanted to let you know why level capped players act out like this.

People get super protective of their Spellscar XP. :D When my friend and I were wee noobs we didnt know what anything was or meant, we were just simple questers exploring, trying to kill anything we saw. Got insulted to hell and back for leeching, without ever understanding what it was. People get themselves into a mindset where they assume the worst intentions in people. We really need to bring that philosophy back.

Yes bullying is wrong but after 6000 years of human development that is not going to change, nor the best way to deal with it which is to ignore it when possible or punch the bully in the nose if absolutely necessary (ignoring it is still the best option though).

As a capped player - if they want to farm without interruption they should play a single player game - or go somewhere instanced. They are choosing to farm in a public area where not only are there quests - but also things like skyshards. They do not own craglorn (or any of the other farming spots) and no other player should be required to leave an area because someone is trying to min max xp or loot.

I get that it's annoying to have people mess up your rotation (been there before, for sure), but if you're going to try this kind of thing in a public space, you have no right to complain and certainly no right to be a *** about it. If they would have asked him to join the group or to move on nicely, then I might have been on their side - but this kind of attitude is just repugnant.

Some players are emotionally stunted and really should have their chat licences taken away.

There’s no excuse whatsoever for bullying in a game.

ZOS’s standard response of insisting you ‘ignore’ them is not acceptable either.

I've had that happen once in an area of the game that wasn't even common "farming" spots. They made incorrect assumptions about why I was there and what I was doing and proceeded to act like jerks towards me.

I responded by then deliberately screwing up their runs for a few minutes before getting back to my usual storytelling and questing.

No, we don't. It's a nonsensical lie that utterly trivializes the power of words - which is often far, far more significant than sticks and stones. It is the motto of sociopaths to disregard how their words impact those around them.

It's just sad, and very stupid if you want the game to flourish. Driving away new players, to what end? I mean, I'm not a very "sensible" person (very easy to anger among other things), but new players are new. A few of them might even already think it IS embarrassing to be new/bad, and haven't played long enough to stick to it no matter what, like a veteran player.

I even "Hello" (especially) low levels, if I happen to run into a dolmen they are fighting or whatever, just to be friendly. And if they undertake something actually a bit challenging (like a world boss or whatever), I let them do the most work - and heal/buff them, and debuff/tank bosses for them. I mean, if I would see someone face a huge bad bully in real life, I wouldn't just stand there and watch them die either!? No one ever complained so far, but I've had a lot of "thanks mate" whispers etc.

This game surely has its issues and up's-and-down's of all kinds, and if we want to play it for yet a couple of years, we should at least try to make people feel welcome. Everything else is just mean and stupid. If you see stuff like this, be sure to let them know it's not OK.

    Bullying isn't limited to noobs.

I had a guy get pissy at me and a friend for fishing in the same hole as him and his friend.

Eventually we deduced this was because of a glitch with the fishing food and the number of people at the fishing spot, but he never explained it and was only insulting. Once we pieced it together we followed them anyway for being a knob.

I’m assuming the area in question is spellscar. It’s an open area. It’s an online game. People are bound to wander over and start killing enemies. Stick to skyreach if you’re really gonna be that upset when people happen upon the area. Sure you lose a little bit of xp but at least it’s guaranteed. No need to send salty whispers or shame a new player looking to level.

I never claimed they had more right to the area than others, just explaining the situation going on. I agree with everyone else saying these public areas are for EVERYONE. If the grouped farmers don't like the randoms, they should either throw out an invite and fill them in, or deal with the interrupts.
