[Update 25] Is Block Cancellation causing server / performance issues?

Block is an ability that everyone can use at any time, which means it can create a lot of traffic for the server to handle. In our continued efforts to improve performance, we are adjusting how the ability works under the hood. You will still be able to do everything you used to with Block. What you’ll notice is animations will blend a bit differently out of a “block cancel”, but the effectiveness of an ability will remain and function the same; the ability will still fire when “block cancelled” but you won’t have any “dead time” before the global combat cooldown ends. This should also get rid of a few health desync issues when getting killing blows with abilities that have been triggered after a block cancel. By refactoring Block much the same way we did with Sprint in the previous Update, we expect the usage of that ability to be more performant.

@ZOS_BrianWheeler could you please elaborate on this? It sounds like what you are saying is that the block cancellation mechanic of Blocking is being used with such frequency that it is causing server performance issues and game glitches. If so, I do not understand the reason that the team is further enabling players to use it in this way.
Is the frequency of Block Cancellation one of the primary causes of issues in Cyrodiil? Is it possible that so many players are using it so frequently that the server is impacted? If so should there not instead be a re-examination of combat mechanics and player behavior?

    I read it as the way block is calculated on the server was inefficient in the same way that sprint was previously and they are fixing it in the same manner.
    The rest is reassurances that block cancelling will still work.

    OP thinks that everybody runs with block cancel burst macros, lol. I'm sure that some players do, but their % is so low that they can't impact server performance much.

    I mean, we have had a lot of "reasons" for poor server performance over the years, and most of them has been fixed, i cant see the server running smoothly.

    It’s fair to say the performance has gone backwards in a big way since this thread started. Bring back Animation and block cancel to the war it was in the imperial city days

    @Dusk_Coven it is unlikely because i am fairly certain the block changes are half the checks from before. Likely it is background issues that zos wont tell you about has caused the difference in the past few patches. There are alot of things they cant talk about especially if they are looking into reduce server load by moving certain things client side behind the scenes.

    The preformNce has been worse than after these chNges. There is no doubt about that. But are these chNges the reason, thats debatable. During Mdyear Mayhem performance was much better, so probably its something else...but we'd never know
