Samurai class or weapons

fluffypandaguy
I know this might sound dumb but I love katanas and would be awesome if they made a new weapon style katana or even a class. Or adding new weapon styles I'm general

Soul Shriven Motif, Tsaeci Motif have Katana weapon styles and I think Akavari and Honor guard might as well.

The closest is going to be Tsaesci.

Its got a great (IMO) Medieval Japan vibe. I use it on a few toons.

Unfortunately, it is a Crown store only motif and not currently available.

The only issue with this game, is the way blades are wielded. "One Handed" weapons are the more realistic sized blades, yet our characters hold them in one hand, even though in the real world you'd hold one with both hands. While the two handed blades are simply gigantic and it's a wonder how we even have the body strength to fling those things around the way we do. Yes you can have your Katanas, but you're either gonna hold a normal sized one with one hand, or a ginormous one with both.

It can be used as a regular outfit style, too. :) Which is more convenient than crafting anyway because most builds use non-crafted gear.

And how exactly would that be different than the regular 2-handed skill line? The skills we have are already some basic Katana moves.
Cut from below, cut from above (after charging), cut from above (with a twirl), cut from above (with long wind-up, but tons of damage), cut from the side, blocking, even the idle stance is pretty much how you hold a katana.

We'll never see something advanced because the need for visual clarity makes your character look like they never used a weapon before.
Sneak, Carve, Executioner/Onslaught/Critical Rush, Light Attack, Unsheathe weapon.

Pretty much everything Ratzkifal said. The great thing about this game is that, even with the limited classes, the sheer number of sets, styles, and skills makes it possible to play as tons of more niche archetypes without the need to make a specific class for everything. And honestly, with the way skills are designed, it's not like a bunch of new super-specific classes like Samurai would add to the gameplay much anyway.
Do a little digging and I'm sure you could find a way to make what you want work in some way. :)

realistic weapons are mostly tiny tough and dont look that great in games where you want to display details - at lesat when you want to have a lot of fantasy weapon variety (And dont get me wrong at a certain point - looking at you asian games - it does get ridiculous)

A nice idea. Id certainly like to see some more Katana style swords.

But thankfully the community seem to be coalescing around the acknowledged fact that the next major development needs to be a new Magica based weapon skill line. Rune and Tome seem to be the favourite format. With many also favouring 1H and Rune/tome.

So a new magica weapon skill line is way way way more a priority :)

Not too unrealistic tbh, in fact one of the best duelists in edo Japan founded a Fighting style where the longer Katana was wielded in one Hand, you can look up miyamoto musashi for that or alternatively niten ichi ryu.

Akavir (the continent to the east of Tamriel) is themed on East Asia, so if we ever get to go there we'll almost certainly get more Asian themed styles which probably would include samurai.

Plenty of other people have mentioned katanas, but for the Samurai theme, the most lore-appropriate class would indeed be Dragonknight. This class is specifically derived from Akaviri martial combat.

However, if we are speaking of lore, we would also have to mention Redguards. Their fascination with swordsmanship should be noted, they or famed theough-out Tamriel for it. Just as Samurai are also typically well-known for theirs. However, an Imperial can be a good choice for this, as they have close ties to the people of Akavir and have in some cases, started families with people from Akavir.

So, to sum up, if I were to make a Samurai character, I would pick a Stamina Dragonknight and make them either an Imperial or a Redguard.

That is it for my huge tangent of a post.
Struggling to find a new class to call home. Please send help.
