Possible to Deactivate Elsweyr for a Short While?

Hello,

Is there a way to somehow deactivate my recently purchased Elsweyr update for a short while, so I can create a character in order to experience Summerset Isles starting story, and then re-activate Elsweyr update again?

Here's my story. I'm new to ESO, though I'm an old fan of TES series. I bought vanilla ESO and created characters of each alliance, so I can experience all starting stories. I still remember the shock when I thought I'm hearing voices as the first thing I heard in ESO was Femshep of Mass Effect, me being straight out of some ME replaying. I didn't stick to ESO though - inventory room issues made the game unplayable for me. Fast forward, bought Morrowind update, created a new character, teared up seeing that good old Seyda Neen dock, but didn't stick again. Fast forward, preordered Summerset, but never tried it out. Fast forward, few days ago decided to check ESO out again. Wiped dust off my highest lv character (lv 9 vanilla ESO Breton, still at Daggerfall dock, right where I left her ages ago), played a few hours - after mercilessly cleaning out inventory. Then bought the damn craftbag and committed a huge mistake - upgraded to Elsweyr. Without creating a Summerset Isles character first, thus robbing myself of that hugely important starting story experience.

Please tell me that there is a way to somehow remove/deactivate/unbuy the latest game update, so I don't have to forever lament and wonder what awesome surprise I missed out on.

Unfortunately there's no way for you to play the Summerset intro/tutorial without somehow finding an account that has no Elsweyr. Disabling yours is not an option. The best you can do is watch a video of it.

Being able to access the older (especially the original) tutorials is a highly requested feature, but there's never been any info AFAIK.

You could just skip tutorial, and go straight to a way shrine and head over to Summerset. That would be the best way to just jump straight into the Summerset story line.

    Nope.

Its annoying, but once you buy the newest expansion, that tutorial is it.

And yes, we have often said we all wish we could select our "starting point" manually, so we can pick and choose which tutorial we start with...

(Or even better in my opinion, have -every- character start in coldharbour, on track with the "classic" mainstory, but give them all a shortcut to jump right to the espenxion instead if they like, and THEN give the expansion tutorial as intro to that region...)

In my opinion, the Summerset tutorial was honestly the most straightforward/had the least story out of all the tutorials. You won't miss much if you choose to watch it on YouTube.

    Have to agree there.
If you play through the stories, the tutorial won't have any surprises for you... just another mind trap, nothing you don't see in other quests.

I loved the MW tutorial. The Summerset one was....dumb, mind-numbingly dumb. Elsweyr is FAR better than Summerset, but not as good as MW (that's probably my nostalgia reflex in action there....)

Really, I wanted a Daggerfall tut - "for tomorrow you sail for.... Daggerfall!"

Yeah.... I've played TES since Arena released. In many ways, Daggerfall and Morrowind were better in their times than either Oblivion and Skyrim....

If you wish to play the tutorial of Summerset, start a new character and port to Summerset. There is a Point of Interest called Eldbur ruins.

Go there, you will be presented with a ruin cave in you have the help them with. Pretend you were in that cave in. That is the tutorial quest.

None of the starter quests are gone.

Yes, you are forced into Elsweyr tutorial and no, there is no way to deactivate it but all of the previous tutorials are still in the game as regular quests. They sometimes feel a bit off consistency-wise if you are not aware that they are actually former tutorials but since you are aware of that it shouldn't be a problem.

You don't even need to have characters from all alliances since one character can do all of the base game starter zones as well.

Thank you. This is a really great suggestion. I'll do that.

Thank you everyone else for replies as well. I know one tiny intro may seem nothing in the grand scheme of things. But in all games and their expansions that first impression upon unwrapping the present leaves lasting memories.

Not sure if you would appreciate the Summerset tutorial.

It barely teaches the user anything and has almost no thematic connection with the rest of the story. Like all ZOS’s tutorials it is perfunctory at best and looks exactly like what it is, a last minute bolt-on produced with the least amount of time, money and resources being used.

It’s clear that ZOS don’t believe enough people bother with tutorials because they put no energy into them and then prevent users from replaying them (which just seems silly).

You will lose none of the story or the fun of doing Summerset by starting with the first quest from Raz.

    Happy gaming

Everyone should start in the wailing prison. You should be able to choose where the wailing prison spits you out at character creation. Along with a starting Mundus stone given the DLC / Chapter zones do not have any Mundus.

    EG
    1) Picked up by a boat on its way to a heist (Theives guild)
    2) Picked up by a boat on its way to acquire a relic (Murkmire, + you get to skip half the prologue)
    3) Picked up by slavers (Morrowind)
    4) Washed up on a beach near a lighthouse (DB)
    5) Landed in a desert, picked up by a caravan, attacked by a dragon (Litterbox)
    6) Landed in on a snowy mountain ridge, picked up by Stuga, finally found you (Wrothgar)
    7) Landed in a delve, your landing caused the delve to collapse (Summerset)
    8) Standard EP/AD/DC starts

*9) No Dragonhold start (You don't have to, but you really should start after Elsweyr)
*10) No CWC start (part of the CWC is how it is elusive and hard to find)

Personally, I don't think Elsweyr should even be a start location given Tharn and Cadwell are significant characters, the player should be encouraged (not mandated) too complete The Companions quest line first.
