Big Question on Upcoming Performance Improvements Requiring Re-Installing Client

So the Q1 improvement plan says we will need to re-download the client. My question is two-fold:

1.) Does this mean we uninstall the game and then reinstall it?
2.) Will this require us to download, reinstall and reconfigure all our addons?

Thanks.

    1. I assume so
    2. If memory serves addons are installed in a separate directory, so no.

    1. Yes, that is what they have said. The old client will not work anymore. so keeping it would be pointless.
    2. That heavily depends on if any code is changed. If they change any of the coding then it is possible that some add-ons will cease to function and require updates. We don't really know in depth detail yet on the new client. So we'll just have to see. but it is a possibility.

    What about on consoles?

I really hope they give crystal clear easy-to-follow step by step instructions, as otherwise there are going to be a huge amount of unhappy people.

Meh, the damn client is so huge by now that downloading the whole thing will consume almost a full months data allowance for me, and many others.

    1> Yes
2> Yes, at least some if not all will need to be updated, as with almost every quarterly change ZOS re code some part of the engine that add-ons work with, so with a HUGE change, a huge change in add-ons is likely!

If I remember correctly from ESO live it will be less than half it’s current size, so there is that at least

Along with optimising the game the main point is to clear out and consolidate a vast amount of old code

Redoing the whole thing is the only practical way and it can’t help but improve the games performance

Will it be a lengthy faff... well, yes... but it’s got to be done before the next chapter launches. Most likely the reason so many of the Elsweyr buildings didn’t have interiors was because the code installed on out machines was so spread out and messy they didn’t have any alternative. They had to cut the load.

One of the main points of this is to make the amount of space needed for the game a lot smaller. As well as make future updates smaller too. So hopefully it won't take up the amount of data usage you have previously experienced. :)

It can't be any worse than installing a new game.
