What add-ons should I get?

Hey!

I'm a new player and have seen that Add-ons are a big thing on ESO.
I'm a completionist so would like to get Add-ons that help me with collectibles. I've seen there's a ton of them so not sure which to get?
Also seen that there's two mini-map ones, but also not sure which to get...

Last but not least, are there any add-ons that allow me to see a list of completed quests, not just available ones?

Thanks!

I'm not sure how much hand-holding a completionist can take without feeling that he hasn't actually completed things himself...

Some players find add-ons useful, or even essential in their eyes, but they are only available to roughly one-third of players and not all of those choose to use them.

I'm not decrying those who do use add-ons, just urging caution and advising against assuming that because you play on PC you must use them. As a completionist, you may be looking for satisfaction over convenience, and the satisfaction may be all the greater for not having your hand held.

    1. Get Minion (program for helping you install addons)

    2. I have Fast Ride (for switching in / out the maneuver skill), Inventory Insight (good once you have alts), Map Pins and Lazy Writ Crafter. I´d consider these essential for a smooth experience, but that´s basically all I use for normal PvE. I have some other mods too like Raid Notifier, but you can pick those up once you´ve played through the main quest and gotten used to the game, they are for endgame content.

I also have some addons for seeing lorebooks and skyshards, but I think Map Pins might be what shows those too for me. I actually don´t know, since it works at the moment and doesn´t show double shard icons etc I haven´t bothered with deleting the old addons.

It´s also a matter of how you want to experience the game. I liked reading the hints for Skyshards and finding them myself at first, but after a while the hints just become obvious and the whole thing is a chore and not a puzzle, so I switched to just seeing them on the map. Maybe you want to try going without that at first.

Get the Votans mini map. It's the native mini map to the game. All the add on does is reactivate it. The other mini map used is great, but a resource hog that often has incompatibilities and can add to lag.

Tons of good add ons depending on what trying to do. Get "Minion", tell it to search ESO add on's, and read through the description of the most downloaded ones. There are at least handful that you will obviously want. (lore books, skyshards, destinations, etc.) And remember, add ons are separate programs, and can have settings you might have to customize a bit to fit your goals.

I gotta have lorebooks, destinations and skyshards. I gotta know where I'm going to find stuff.

and Voltans fisherman makes fishing relaxing, instead of trying to focus on that minuscule bobber.

I resisted minion for too long - get minion.

Mappins - for everything related to finding things on the map
    Traitbuddy - crafting
Combat Matrix - lets you know just how you are doing
I also use an old addon called Clock which has a Tamriel clock and option to add home town time

    it all depends on preferences.

though if you are not a star at addon installing for your games, ESO or other games. getting Minion is a great resource.
Not only does it let you easy search the addon database. but it lets you filter to only up to date addons. meaning you dont accidentally install long abandoned addons that might cause compatibility errors.
Another feature that minion has is auto-update for your installed addons. This way you get all the latests addon bug-fixes that their creators put live.

Once you have minion installed and configured. (dont worry its easy.) You are ready to look for your addons, but read the addon descriptions carefully because some addons will need Lib files to work. Fortunately, minion lets you install those too.

As for what addons you want to install. it depends. some addons only do 1 thing, but do it well. other do a lot and you might not need some of it features.
Some even modify your whole game UI.

Try some and if you don't like em, uninstall. this too is an feature of minion. to easy uninstall and reinstall addons.

    Good luck.

Some people will recommend Harvest Map and I do see why.

    I uninstalled it though.

its a very resource heavy addon. not something i'd recommend to a new player. Game has enough lang without adding addon lag.

Agree. It also makes the map look like Jackson Pollock redesigned it.

It’s not particularly resource heavy so long as you limit visible nodes to local. I disabled all but chests, heavy sacks, TG troves, and giant clams, and don’t display pins at all in 3D since that’s kinda pointless.

So you set most of its features off. Congrats, you know how to work an addon.
The point isn't if the addon can be made less resource intensive. Obviously it can be as you just made that point.
It is however not suited for somebody new to addons.
Figuring out how to do addons is a process. I remember when i first started using Minion, because the trading guild i just joined required its use and the Master Merchant addon.
Only other addon i used for a long time was skyshards. because finding those thing annoyed me.

The point is, for a new player, it's not a good starting point. I personally wouldn't recommend it until a player starts actively trading/crafting.
The map-pins addon, which includes skyshards. I would recommend to a new player. So they can find those at least and get the skill points for their first toon going to lvl 50 and beyond.

there are lots of good addons for compleationist achievements like votans fisherman and rare fish tracker also by the ancestors for finding the tombs of dark elves in vvardenfel and destinations for general achievements.

just be sure that when you download an addon through minion or manually that you also get their libraries listed on the addons info page otherwise the addon wont work

Bandits User Interface is a fantastic collection of QoL improvements in one package...it does a lot of things and is very customizable.

Easytravel is great for porting to places using members of guilds you are in.

Votans is a great minimap and works with all the pin addons out there...though using the default map and configuring it with Bandits User Interface also works well.

    All of them!

On a more serious note. Try some and see what you like. I've tried hundreds and use 50 or so regularly.

As it has mentioned multiple times, get minion. It will save you a lot of time and headaches. Otherwise it depends on how much of a completionist you are. Lorebooks, map pins, harvest map, Votans minimap. questmap, skyshards, and destinations are all a good start. You will also want to use the in game zone guide and the in game default achievements as completion tools as well.

This, Hoft has several addons that seem to replace a large collection of addons that were once staple.

Tracks all kinds of stuff. If you have more than one character it is really handy but even with just one character it is worth using.
