Seems a bit silly that 5 years after launch they have to start cutting stuff for optimizations. Game just keeps running worse.

It’s pretty obvious that the game code has grown beyond what some consoles can run well under all conditions. If ZOS is starting to reduce some graphical complexity on consoles to try to compensate, it’s probably a good idea and overdue.
Game looks PS2ish on console now, yeah. Also the viewing distance reduction (also added this patch) gives worse pop in than Tera or BDO—I’ve directly compared and screenshooted to be sure. Actually, BDO on a Pro has better viewing distance than a PC on high for some reason.
They need to port this game to the new (Next-gen) consoles ASAP. And yes, I’ve made this suggestion multiple times now and will keep bandwagoning it.

The same new consoles that aren’t fully confirmed and won’t actually be on sale for about a year and won’t have the population of existing console platforms for even longer? Those consoles?
Even when the new consoles come out ZOS will still have to cater for the old consoles for a while. It’s one way in which an ongoing MMORPG differs from a single player game. Once you’ve set your baseline system, it’s hard to upgrade them.

Making other players and the world uglier definitely doesn’t encourage the “must have” syndrome from other players mounts, gear etc, either.

Is this only the base PS4 model, or the Pro as well?

Pro and X1X as well. It’s possible they could’ve left the enhanced versions alone, but idk.

In the patch notes for xbox it states that these changes do not apply to X1X. I would post a screenshot but that's difficult on a garbage kindle.
I am glad we are PC. Without the addons and now this, my wife would never agree to play ESO.
It's got to be pretty for her to play.
I can only sympathize.
