Little Helpful Tweak for Nvidia Graphics Cards

Maintenance for the week of January 27:

"The last thing to do to make sure you will have stable frames & excellent performance is to uninstall ‘Nvidia Audio Driver’. This driver is completely awful and will affect your frames, cause you stutter and lag. Just go to ‘Uninstall programs’ from your control panel and remove Nvidia audio driver. This action will have no consequences on the audio of your system."

also uninstall it from device manager as well.

Those settings will do absolutely nothing to increase performance on a windows 10 machine with ESO.
Even on an optimal set of hardware you are looking at .01% of PCs gaining .01% of performance.

The absolute best thing the average user can do to "tweak" their PC is to NOT TOUCH IT.
Leave it alone. People considerably smarter than the average user have designed the operating system to be optimal for 99% of applications you will use.

Almost every guide on the internet related to tweaking is going to *** up someones PC.
Really I want you to think for a moment.. if there really was a "magic bullet" tweak that actually made a significant difference dont you think it would have been rolled into software by now?

what helps much more are tweaks of the software itself...

However you could tweak the settings in the usersettings file of eso and eso's 3D settings through the nvidia's control panel to the point what seems to be good and stable.

Shouldn't break the PC. If ESO crashes, just revert the settings back.

you may find this little guide helpful

1st go into chrome (if you use it) and then into settings in the search bar type Background
    set this to OFF
    2019-12-05-11-27-19.png

    2nd (Nvidia users only)
open Nvidia control panel and click the following

    2019-12-05-11-24-07.png

3rd open this window and set the following settings

    2019-12-05-11-23-24.png

make sure to have "low latency" set to ULTRA
4th open you in game settings and setting them to the following
    Screenshot-20191205-110516.png
    Screenshot-20191205-110525.png

after you have done this log out FULLY and find your ESO user settings (usually in documents/elder scolls online/live
MAKE A COPY OF THIS FILE
then adjust the following ONE AT A TIME DO NOT COPY PASTE
    2019-12-05-11-21-42.png

after you have done all this the final step is to install
    2019-12-05-11-26-25.png

make a PvP profile un-checking ALL non-essential addons this will allow you to turn off addons and put them back on with a simple click of the mouse
you may find the look of your game has changed (not so crisp ect ect) but i have tested this and at a keep under attack with 30 blues my FPS did not drop below 99 even in peak times
i hope you all find this of use

Since the last major update, my FPS took a major hit. The problems in PvP (for me) flip-flopped from latency issues to FPS since that update. So, I will give the above settings a try and report back if it really helped. I am willing to give up some video quality for better performance.

Last night a good friend of mine RQ the game because of the load screens while in battle only to come back to the fight dead. Does anyone have tips for in battle load screens-- I can pass on to my friend to get him back in the game?

Edit: To add... I will not remove the audio driver. I simply made a few tweaks to my Nvidia settings and a few tweaks to user settings. Also, I made backups/snippets of the originals so I can revert back if needed.

nothing you can really do about the load screens as they seem to be random, if your in combat just try keep a shield up as much as possible, but the settings i posted may help with any Addon/rendering issues that can cause extended load screens

p.s i would be very interested to hear how/if your game play improves after you try settings :)

Honestly i don’t think the graphics card is the issue, last time i was on cyrodiil i put the game in potto mode and still i had 28 FPS during mayor battles.
I’ve played other multiplayer games on maximum settings on my PC including Destiny 2 and GTA5 and never once i had 28 FPS. However the potato mode did help with not having textures popping out of nowhere in Cyrodiil. I guess if they didn’t have their servers in a Potomac river fish shack they would had better performance.

Threaded Optimization always caused slower frames on new and old games, and more crashing when enabled. It's been an issue since introduced and never really updated or fixed.I turned it off when I read about it having some issues with games, and almost never have issues at all with CTDs anymore,I think maybe 3 or 4 times in the past 3 years.

If I set the image settings to balanced can I still change the settings in game independantly? How does that work?

yes but you wont see as much improvement as you would with the performance setting, all the "in game" settings and the user settings file changes are independent of the graphics card settings

I did the chrome trick and changed it to balanced from quality, will see how that works . i wouldnt doubt that chrome was the reason for my issues. That thing either works great or hogs everything.

the chrome setting just stops any background cpu usage (helps with latency)

which may have been one of the problems, because the framerate wasnt so much the issue, it was the latency

Connection got a bit better, and performance a little too, however, after changing it to balanced i noticed my gpu was not even turning on pretty much lol, so i changed it t othe recommended setting of 4 k dsr and somehow my performance got even better.

    I dont understand anymore, lol.

i dont use HDMI, i use DP..plus this affects only if you use the monitor speakers..if you don't then it shouldn't affect your sound

and I do notice a difference in the overall game and cyrodiil when I get rid of the Nvidia HD audio driver. I don't use it anyway so no need for it to screw with my fps/latency

yea and the threaded optimization should probably set to auto since most mmo's (i think) have trouble with using all your cores.

You can optimize ESO through GEForce Experience. I would not recommend anything beyond those optimizations and keeping your driver up to date. Like the developers have said, manually altering the same user settings on two different computers can have very different results.

I am seeing an improvement with changing the two settings in my Nvidia control panel, and the user settings files. I have been in a few decent large scale battles in PvP, and with these changes, there is an estimated 20-30% increase in my FPS.

Today I will make the changes in the in-game video settings to see if it helps even more. I truly believe it is server-side on their end that has caused this drop in FPS... so I am keeping my original settings noted so that I can always set them back IF the Devs fix the issue.

I had to change the settings back, the game looked way too rough when i changed the settings, I honestly refuse to put my ssettings lower on a pc that far FAR exceeds what is required for this game, with a 1gb connection.
