Blade of woe strange artifact in throwing animation

Every time I use the blade of woe and get the throwing animation there are these beige artifacts (circled in the pictures) that fall away from the body.
There are 2 every time but catching both in a screen shot seems hard to do but they are always there.
I'm not sure if its an animation glitch something left over from when it was programmed.
Any clue what they are
