Treasures that aren't flagged as treasure?

I don't know if this has been mentioned in other threads-- I'd be surprised if it hasn't-- but earlier this year (beginning with Elsweyr?) I started noticing that sometimes a treasure wouldn't have the little gold bag icon that flags it as being a treasure. This means that when you go to the NPC merchants, click on the Sell tab, and click on the Miscellaneous tab, those treasures don't get listed at the top of the window the way other treasures do. After you sell the treasures which are flagged as such, you must scroll through the window to see whether there are any other treasures you can sell. Does anyone know why this is, and why it hasn't been fixed yet?

If I'm understanding what you mean, you are describing two different things. The little gold bag icon next to a piece of gear (notice how you only see it for equippable items) aren't actually treasures. What that symbol denotes is that the trait of an item is "Ornate." Just as all gear traits apply a different bonus; the ornate trait means it will sell for more than usual.

The items you see that are labelled as treasure are also things that could be stolen/laundered. There is actually a daily for the Thieves Guild that uses these items as a turn-in. So while the most common thing to do with them is just to sell them for the money, there is another purpose for them. This may be the reason they aren't sorted to the top of the merchant list like ornate items.

    I agree, it's really annoying.

You would think that a QoL update that would allow the game/users to tag items in the inventory would be an easy thing to do and, most importantly, would be easy to implement over both PC and console. However, I suspect that the reality is that it's harder than I imagine and ZOS has neither the time nor the ambition to do anything so useful.

I pity the poor console users whose inventory management is even more tedious than those on PC.

The same happened with some of Murkmire's items when it went live: some of them didn't have a proper description.

Let's hope for a future fix.

    I've sent in-game tickets already.

I don't remember treasure ever being flagged to be at the top of the list for selling to merchant npcs. Before overland dragons, the main source of these was justice system activity, and since you usually sell those to a fence, they were always at the top. The packs of laundered goods that you got in heist rewards always showed up in alphabetical order in my memory.

I don't think treasures used to be flagged as such, although it's been a few years since I started playing ESO, and in my early days I wasn't always quick to pick up on things-- for instance, I used to buy recipes I already knew until I realized that in the popup window it says "Known" or "already known." :)

All I know is that the way I remember it, I used to have to click on each piece of gear to see if it had the magnifying glass icon in the popup window, then one day after an update the inventory box had a column that showed either the magnifying glass, or the gold bag, or the intricate icon, or nothing at all. That's how I remember it, anyway-- one day I noticed that column in the inventory window for the first time, presumably because it had just been added in an update, since I figure I wouldn't have had such a hard time having to check each item if there had already been a column that showed me what I wanted to know.

Anyway, I'm not talking about the gold bag on weapons and armor that indicates ornate gear, although it's the same icon. I'm talking about when you have Treasure items which are listed on the Miscellaneous tab-- the tab where fishing bait, treasure maps, crafting surveys, and so on are listed. If you have treasure items in your inventory, usually they are listed with the gold bag icon and will be displayed at the top of your inventory list when you go to NPC merchants and click on the Sell tab. This is really nice because it helps make sure you don't overlook those items when you're selling some of your stuff to a merchant.

But it seems like beginning with Elsweyr, or maybe Murkmire, certain Treasure items don't show that icon in the inventory list, which means that after you sell your ornate gear and treasure items, you must scroll down and look for unflagged Treasures to make sure you don't overlook them.
