Maintenance for the week of January 20:
• PC/Mac: No maintenance – January 20
• NA megaservers for maintenance – January 22, 4:00AM EST (9:00 UTC) - 9:00AM EST (14:00 UTC)
• EU megaservers for maintenance – January 22, 9:00 UTC (4:00AM EST) - 14:00 UTC (9:00AM EST)

why do the servers go down for maintenance at the same time?

hey all, this question has possible been asked 10000 time already

why do the all the servers go down for maintenance at the same time?

i can see its good for Na as the time is off peak while players are still sleeping
but for the Eu players its frustrating that most of the day is taken up with maintenance and then any emergency time to fix anything that broke after the maintenance, i could not be able to play till close to 5pm in the evening sometimes.

so why cant the servers for the eu be down during the off peak times for europeans
like how wow or other mmo's deal with it ?

if they changed it to suit EU players the NA would suffer either way someone has to bite the bullet, if you want WOW then play WOW this is the way ESO has always done things EU server is a 2nd class citizen

There are two servers. They could do them at different times. It's not rocket surgery.

Why do they all go down at the same time? Convenience

It’s convenient that the servers are maintained first thing on a Monday (or occasionally Tuesday if Monday is a holiday) European time. It’s the start of the working week and the end of the weekend. I’m sure there are people in Texas (home of PC NA I believe) who would love maintenance to start a bit later, but that might mean more EU downtime during peak hours, which no one wants. Having to wait until 5pm to start playing once a week is fine by me.

To be honest I’d rather they did maintenance every day if it would really improve performance....

There will never be enough maintenance to improve performance on this game

You have one client which works on both servers, so both servers have to be on the same version.

Once up on a time, there was different clients for PC NA or PC EU, so you had to install two different clients, each 80GB.

Also maintaining one client is easier.

It's not rocket surgery, but apparently to complicated for some people ....

There are probably synchronous processes in both, and also linked to the authentication server, which is common. So they should have the same version in them.

Because in NA is not peak time and in EU the players are at work or in school in the morning till early afternoon. That is the best possible solution for them.
Also if you would do the maintenance and patches at different times you couldn't switch between NA and EU freely, since one of the servers will always use an older version of the game.

They did used to do them at different times. While the megaservers are different, apparently, they have dependencies on each other that caused problems when one was down and the other was up. They switched to doing them at the same time.

No... but it’s a bit like rocket science

(Although they did bring people back from the moon with a computer less powerful than a digital watch and a load of brainpower)

If ESO servers were rockets, they would be something like the N1 Soviet Heavy lifter
