"Undaunted Celebration Event Follow-up" was an amusing thread that made a strong comeback and went full circle after a year!

It's funny how it was closed for being an old thread. More like, over a year old problem that keeps kicking their butt.

Yeah my guess is that it got to be a bit to much "In their face" type of thread.

We've had three years in a row of problems with this event. They pledged last year that they wouldn't go forward with another event that used the group finder unless they had perfect, "100%" confidence that it would work. As much as I love this team and this game, they deserve some heat for what a mess this is.

Agreed... It might be an old thread indeed, but it was nevertheless very relevant to today's situation, so its necro-ing seemed fair. Also, closing it could maybe trigger a Streisand effect, so I don't get what they are trying to achieve with this closure... I could understand it would lead to confusion if they chose to procede with another solution than last year. But then, why not mention it in the closing statement? (And wouldn't amending the thread title into "2018 Undaunted celebration event follow-up" be a more efficient way to suppress confusion?)

This looks like the quick dismissal of a valid but embarassing grievance... which is not very good in my opinion.

Not at all good, a rather hasty decision that might prove that they want it to "go away"

Closing that thread sums up a long and embarrasing story, they are unable or unwiling to sort out the problem and hoping that the problem will somehow be forgotten ?

So you think it's a software related problem ?

I think it's a combination of problems. I think there are problems with code, hardware and network infrastructure. I think the data center in Germany is not up to the task. I play on console and my kids prefer to play on PC. We all have more problems with the EU server even though we play in the middle of the night over there. I think they chose the wrong game engine and I think the megaserver technology was also a bad choice.

Now, I have no data to support my conclusions and my knowledge of the field is so archaic as to be virtually non-existant. It is, however, my opinion. Which means it must be fact.

As an IT professional, I defend other IT professionals and IT departments because I know how much we get sh*% on for not simply pressing a button and fixing something, but know how complicated fixing something can be. People really have no clue how many people, how much hardware, how many man hours it takes for ones and zeros to travel across the internet. They think it's magic, and the Wizard behind the curtain just needs to wave his wand.

When "challenges" arise. Acknowledge the "challenge", take ownership of the "challenge" and get it fixed. ZOS has not done this. They would rather hidden all the flaws and prevents discussion of said flaws than to admit to them.

I have a lot of respect for the mmo's that have a easily located list of known issues and quarterly communications to their customers on said issues and up dating said lists as they successfully resolved issues and of course willingness to re add an issue that reoccurs.

ZOS is not one of them.

As an IT proffessional you should also recognise when a company is constantly pushing out a product that fails so often.

Who fault is it then ?

I don’t think very many people believe it’s a simple fix.

However, many people seem to believe that a genuinely A grade team with proper leadership and company commitment would have made a significantly better attempt to both deal with and explain the issue(s) involved here.

To be confronted by exactly the same useless player experience and total ‘event’ failure a year after the head of the company stated that the were going to fix it, does not help convince people that ZOS are a team of talented winners or that they have effective leadership or even an understanding of their own systems.

They appear to be a very defensive company who is still in denial about the significance of this ‘event failure’. And this is a proper failure - an entire year of failure to deliver any significant performance improvement whatsoever.

We get it’s a tough challenge. What we don’t get is why ZOS can’t get a handle on it.

Probably more than what Zos wanted to face. The reason for closing a necro thread is because there are aspects that are no longer relevant. But this was a most relevant thread.

You are so wrong, we don't expect magic we expect the problem to be adressed in a professional manner. They knew that the probability of a server meltdown when hosting the Undaunted event was more or less certain and they are aware of that the problem is caused by the servers because they aren't able to handle the load.

If it was software related wouldn't NA servers suffer the exact same thing ?
