I've mentioned a desire for this feature before, but I'm going to dedicate a post to it this time.
Here's the kind of player I am: the first thing I do when I enter a game is see how many HUD elements I can take off the screen. It's very important to my immersion, and my overall enjoyment of the game. Right now I have the skill bar on auto-hide and the quest tracker hidden, but there's still clutter on the screen! Here are my thoughts about HUD items:
1. I think the
cursor would benefit from an auto-hide option. I could see this being done two ways:
- The cursor is hidden until it hovers over an interact-able or target
- The cursor could also appear when you enter combat
I personally think the first option is enough, but I could see how some people would want a persistent cursor during combat.
Failing all of this, a more
minimalist cursor design would be less obtrusive. Something smaller and more transparent, perhaps just a dot.
2. I could see an option to hide pop-up
button prompts altogether. After a few times, people know to hit (X) to interact with an object or NPC. They also know the buttons to open the housing editor and activate synergies. There still should be indicators that containers can be looted and synergies can be activated, of course!
3. I can't see a situation where the
group members and
compass could be elegantly auto-hidden. (If anyone has any thoughts about it, share!) I think in the case of
global HUD items, a three-button toggle would be best. The
cursor could even be tied to this feature, negating the need for the first idea altogether. I will leave it to the wizards to determine which three buttons are best.
Those are the thoughts I have at this time. Please consider them! It's a very small thing, but I feel like it's something that could enhance the experience for a lot of people.
