If sustain is this terrible, if im going to have practically stop dpsing so replace every other rotation with heavy attacks, why should I even invest in sustain? Im honestly considering saying f it and trying out just not doing anything for sustain and seeing how it goes. If everything I sacrifice for sustain isnt helping me sustain, whats the point?
Also fun fact, im getting higher dps numbers just using my spammable than a full rotation. Seriously 100% not joking. My new rotation is buffs, curse, force pulse spam, cast frag on proc. Reapply curse and buffs as needed. In execute replace force pulse with mages wrath. Im pulling 6k higher with just that than with my full rotation. Just playing around testing it for laughs. You have created a meta that literally rewards braindead no effort skill spamming.

Welcome to my world. My Magplar has never had any recovery above 1000, often much lower. But strapping on enough abilities that give back resources and heavy attacking a lot has more than made up for it in most scenarios.
You’d be surprised how much magic you can get back by dumping a bunch of CP into the line that increases your research return. If I happen to spam through my magic, which since it’s usually around 50K is hard enough, just 2 heavy resto attacks get me back to a manageable level.

Can we go to pre Elsweyr, pre Morrowind, pre One Tamriel... Every time they make changes, a lot of posts like this. And the outcome? No, we don't go to any pre... Once something is changed, I expect it to be worse next time. When "can we go back to pre Morrowind" started out, I just refused to take part in the crazy Olimpiad of chasing new builds, new classes, new sets and new rotations.

You just explained perfectly why my Magplar has been in 5 Julianos for most of the last few years. By building around a set that is always considered “pretty good” and not BIS I’ve avoided every major nerf.

MagDK sustain (which was considered the worst for so very long) is surprisingly good with the removal of Combustion cooldown. I have the most expensive abilities in my rotation, including Blockade, Eruption, Engulfing and so on, and I can sustain without heavy attacks. All thanks to full fire dmg arsenal (scalding rune instead of degeneration and so on) and Flame glyph on my Infused Maelstrom Inferno staff.
On the other hand Magplar sustain is absolutely terrible. Solar Barrage cost is damn too high. I know that ZoS considers it an AoE but seriously, who uses it for the AoE dmg? Most of the time you are ranged anyways and you don't care if Solar Barrage hits or not, only permanent empower is what matters. Than, you can't play without Blazing Spear, otherwise you won't be able to proc Burning Light. Channeled Focus simply doesn't cut it.
Magsorc sustain was always bad, so I don't see much of a difference. Adjusted a thing here and there and it's same shiet as usualWhat's worst, lightning splash is worse than ever. It was doing a lot less dmg than other dots last patch so it was really though decision to slot it. The synergy was the only reason to slot it. But now, it does little dmg and is a lot more expensive. Additional synergy isn't enough to completely gut my sustain which is bad even without it.

Julianos isnt gonna help you with sustain. That’s the big killer this patch. And of course it hits mag the hardest, especially magplars. Almost no way to sustain even a 3m dummy without going Breton and wearing false gods. Of course, you can always heavy attack, use absorb magicka/recovery glyph, but then your dps goes in the tank.
