Do you use treasure maps? Or do you get rid of them?

Writ rewards supply people with a lot of treasure maps. Dolmens and dragons also seem to provide a decent amount of treasure maps.

Are you more likely to find the treasure?
Or are you more likely to get rid of the maps?
(By selling on a guild store, selling to a merchant, giving them to someone, or destroying, etc.)

If you believe it's a good idea to always go find the treasures, please explain why.

Do you have any ideas on how treasure maps could be improved?
(Whether it be the maps, or how the treasures are found, or an improvement in the loot, etc.)

Yes. I always use my treasure maps.

Used to sell them, but have an addon, so just do them when I'm doing my surveys, now.

I have a friend who likes them, so i send them to her.
All the BOP ones I destroy.
Sometimes if it's like a zone with good sets like Briarheart, spriggians, spinners, or mother's sorrow, I keep it, but thats super rare- as my game time is spent mostly doing dungeons.

Treasure maps need buffed heavily. We should have increased gold from them and a chance at gold mats etc because right now they are a waste of time.

I use the treasure maps but only because there is an achievement for opening 1000 treasure chests and the ones from treasure maps count as well as the ones that need to be unlocked. I just have whatever character needs to work on that achievement run them when my storage chest for maps gets full. Except for maps in Cyrodil, those I sell in the guild store as I have no desire to enter PVP land.

Cyrodiil maps take a bit more planning than non-campaign ones so they tend to stack up across numerous sources.

But the rest usually get processed every few days when I do survey runs.

Only if it's for a zone where one of the better sets drop (i.e., Rivenspire or Deshaan), or it's right near a wayshrine. Otherwise it ends up in one of my guild traders.

Yes. I always use my treasure maps.

I normally funnel all treasure maps to one particular character who is basically all zones complete and does not have any active quest hubs she is working. The maps serve as an excuse for her to put together a little adventure, often grabbing some nearby fun like WBs, public dungeons or delves. And a fine excuse to harvest along the way. We don't really care about the loot.

One thing I'd mention is that the Witch Fest writs are much better done since you can easily get there with what the map gives you. Normal treasure maps, however, are an instant trip to wiki since the location info on normal treasure maps is worthless.

In fairness, I tend to let them pile up a bit before I do 'em. Just like surveys.

I have lots of lower levels, both accounts both NA and EU. So I always send a middle level lowbie out with the maps - there's always a possibility of something decent, and lowbies can never have too much at level gear (yes, I'm aware that people say you don't need much gear while leveling - however, with my ping from satellite, my characters DO need decent gear just to stay alive....)

I'll usually, like @starkerealm, save up some before spending an hour or so running around for them. Just like surveys....

I always do my treasure maps, except for one map, which requires me to take a small army with me, because someone at ZOS decided to put the chest in the middle of a World Boss. And you can never get it.

Is that the one on Blighted Isle? I keep them around, on various people, and when I'm in that area, I drop by to see if anyone's there killing her.... If so, I help (as much as I'm able), and THEN get the chest.

I generally use the ones that are easy-ish to get to. (I destroy Cyro maps, for instance. Along with IC master writs)

Meticulously (read: obsessively?) use them all... even if just for the greens & blues to trade down the line of my characters to level crafting skills via decon.

I sell them in guild stores for low prices, or occasionally not-so-low if the sets from that zone are very popular at the moment.

I use all but the Cyrodiil ones - those get guild trader'd.

I only use maps that have a chance of dropping something good, for example, Vvardenfell or Deshaan ones.

Yes. I've even reported it to ZOS on numerous occasions, but so far after 3 years it hasn't been changed.

I do go collect them, but only because I don't generally go questing, and they give me a reason to go out into the world instead of staying home and crafting all the time.

The issue with them is that they're SO underwhelming. It can be a lot of work finding the treasure (unless you cheat by looking online or something), so when you open it up to find it's all worthless, it's disappointing.

If each chest was guaranteed to have at least ONE gold quality item of some type (eg. weapon, armour, crafting materials, etc), then they might actually be worth seeking out.

There used to be a time that i would sell them for about 200 Gold on the guild trader and they would sell really fast but then i stepped out of the game for a few weeks and decided not to join any traders so i look for the treasure myself and either decon the sets or sell them to my own guild members

Yes. I always use my treasure maps.

I love them, but that's because I'm a pathological looter. I loot EVERYTHING. I loot every sack, parcel and urn there is to loot. I put CP points so that my chests should have best possible loot. I don't know how much it makes difference but at least I tried! I tend to collect a bunch of maps and then get them at one sitting, same with surveys. I do have the luxury of using Add on as I play on PC, so picking all treasure chests is not a big job.

I tend to give them to a player I run with that likes to get them. I have other activities I prefer to do when I am in game. Overall I think they are fine and good to have in game in their current state.
