In a recent video the combat team stated that all the recent extreme changes to combat were targeted at elite players to curtail their high DSP. It was also of their opinion that since the average player didn't really care, these changes would have little to no affect on them.
Now I know the opinion of one player is about as useful as a bucket of spit, but after nearly 3 years of playing ESO primarily for the combat and spending over $1700 to support the game, I just wanted to leave one more opinion about these changes from an "average" user perspective.
While never achieving an "elite" status, some of us have a great deal of time and effort invested in theory crafting and improving our combat skills. When changes targeted at an elite audience are made that diminish the efforts and relatively modest achievements of mere average players, it has a very negative affect on enthusiasm to continue playing as usual. It also feels like a very arbitrary point of emphasis to provide justification for changes few players, if any, truly want.
Us average combat mortals are hardly unaffected by these extreme changes to combat. They are not fun, not challenging, nor do they feel motivating in any way to continue investing the time and effort to further improve, or at the very least, regain what was nerfed away. 30-60% nerfs to damage, accompanied by sustain issues from high increase of skill costs, and having to continually rework skills, rotations, gear, classes, etc., every 3 months, really begins to beg the question of "What's the point?".
The best I can say about these over the top changes to combat is that they are
extremely annoying. The ESO shortcut on my PC desktop sits very idle these days as it has become associated with a growing sense of annoyance over the last year...and I don't play games to be annoyed. I know from speaking with friends in vet progression groups and other guild members that I am not alone in feeling what a bust to enthusiasm these changes have created. And for what purpose? Because a very small minority of elitists could hit 100K DPS on a cheesed out trial dummy? Well, these are the players who will LEAST be affected. What was once exhilarating and fun, now just makes me increasingly click the "Quit" option.

Finally, to not leave you with a completely negative posts, I would encourage the combat team to rethink what affects these ongoing changes are having on the vast majority of the player base...of which your elitists make up only a tiny fraction. Consider significantly cutting back on some of the extreme costs to AOE's. Don't let resource sustain an annoying pain point. Put some punch back into the DOT's so they aren't basically useless. Give us average players back some of the DPS and sustain you're nerfing. Let us feel empowered and enthused again. After all, how many threads in these forums do you find elite players complaining about high their DPS is? The affect of what you're doing is far from benign on the rest of us.
