Billed $15.89 for eso plus monthly? Since when?

Why is ZOS billing me $15.89 for the monthly subscription now? Everything I can find says it's still only $14.99. (at the most)

Anyone else notice this or did they, or PayPal, sneak in a fee somewhere without telling me?

If you're in the US several states have passed new taxes on online goods and services, could be that, if not... No idea.

I see now that ZOS has been overbilling me since June. It's only by 90 cents, but still. I'm pissed. There is no tax on services of any kind in my state.

Time to fill out a help ticket.

There has to be a balance.

If they nerf something they have to buff something...

usually it's taxes....and just because there is no tax on services in your state, the tax may still apply depending on where the place of supply is determined, which can get pretty complex for internet transactions.

But is there a sales tax? because sales taxes apply to online purchases due to a court ruling.

Everyone has been crying for buffs instead of nerfs, they finally buff something and people still complain.

    Could be this.

I mean, it could be taxes. I know my monthly is something like 15.59 because of taxes (I don't remember the exact number off the top of my head.)

Could also be your state recently changed it's tax code with regard to online transactions.

It could be a weird interaction between PayPal and tax codes as well, where you're getting charged more because of the state PayPal is incorporated in (can't remember where off hand.)

Check your billing page carefully, see if there's a tax surcharge added. Easiest way to preview it would be to go through the crown purchase options, and see if a tax is added to the final total before you actually pay. (You don't need to buy the crowns, just go through the system, and get your total.)

Where I’m at, anything purchased online is taxed. Including this game monthly sub.

Same here in Texas. Even my Crown purchase is taxed. Sigh.

I've always had to pay taxes on game subs etc. in Utah. And they're set to go up soon. It's not a huge amount.... unlike the new taxes on food that are in process. *sigh*

You may want to double check your state hasn't imposed anything for online. These have all been passed separately.

The "Tax on Amazon Prime" page is a pretty good guideline for whether your state now taxes digital services.
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=201571830

There's absolutely nothing ZOS can do about this. They're required to register, collect, and remit sales tax based on economic nexus laws. They don't get to pocket any of it.

For perspective, this is a total of $10.80 extra per year. Tax is always annoying, but is it really worth being angry about $10 a year for a game you can play for 52 cents a day?

I've been paying $16.06 per month since 2017, that's when the new tax hit here in MN.

Irrespective of what the reason is, ZOS should have supplied you with an accurate invoice for your payment. It should detail exactly what you paid and any additions or deductions made.

It should be attached or linked to the confirmation email you were sent about your subscription.

If they didn’t or you are still unsure, I would definitely submit a support ticket and make sure you reply to the annoying, unfriendly bulls*** automated response they send you. That way a real person at ZOS should see your query.

Additionally, there should probably be a link to the original ZOS invoice via your PayPal account if that’s how you paid.

    Hope you sort it out

Would that not have to be mentioned upfront somewhere?

Would have to state it clearly if in UK.

But then we don’t seem to have as horrendous a tax system as you do in US - though is bad enough. My sympathies!

It is stated up front somewhere. Once you've put in the information, and the site knows what state you're billing from, it can tell you what you'll pay in taxes.

The tricky part is that states tax commerce (for the most part) and state taxes vary from state to state. You'll quickly learn what your own are. OP probably lives somewhere with a 6% tax on online purchases/services/subscriptions/whatever, so that slaps an extra 90 cents on a 15 dollar charge.

That said, you're not likely to know what another state's taxes are on various products unless you spend time there.
